We've been in the daycare germ trenches pretty much from Day 1. We are in our 3rd week. It's been rough: H has had ear infections, a sore throat, a CRAZY constant runny nose, a cough and starting last night, congestion. Obviously she wakes up a few times a night, and it's been tough bc I am solo parenting until Friday.
Starting last night, I picked up something - chills and sweats and aches and nausea. And just all around feeling like crap.
Everyone nods their head and says, "Yep, that's daycare!" Ok fine. I get it. I think the benefit of socialization outweighs getting slathered in germs every day. BUT, DUDE. When does it get better??? I feel awful sending her to daycare when I know she feels bad - but she's not contagious, no fever, etc, and I am only in my 2nd week of a new job. So I really don't want to already be THAT mom, or give the impression that I'm a Mommy Track employee. I really want to do well in my new position but I am just wrecked with guilt over my sweet sick girl going to "school" and not getting enough rest (she is not on their schedule yet, still winging it).
As a side note, the director told me that there is one little girl that H always plays with, that they are buddies. Well when I inquired about who this little girl was, she pointed her out to me. This little girl is the one that always has a face COVERED in snot - like down below her chin! Every time I see her! And she even had a bit of a rash/irritation under her nose from so*much*snot. I was like, "Oh way to go H! Way to pick the snottiest germiest kid here!!! I hope you two just share toys and germs ALL DAY LONG."
Ugh. When did your child (and you!) get relatively well???
On a side note, I had silly hopes that MY child wouldn't take the sickness hit that some kids do bc we are still Bfing at close to a year. Um, YEAH RIGHT! Thanks for nothing, antibodies!
but luckily both our bosses totally understand and have lots of experience with young parents.
