LO is 14 months old, and I am STILL nursing him back to sleep in the middle of the night. He wakes up at least twice a night now. We had a blissful period where we sleep trained him with CIO when he was 9 months old, and that worked for maybe 2 months (or less), but then traveling and/or teething occurred and I went back to nursing him to sleep.
The problem is, I'm too much of a wuss NOT to nurse him back to sleep! It works 99% of the time! Otherwise, who knows how long he can continue to cry for in our arms??!! I think we tried once before and it was at least 20 minutes of screaming, in both DH's arms and mine! I've heard it's better to let DH go in so DS will know there's no milk coming, but that just pisses him off even more!!! (Plus, I feel bad for making DH go in because he's the type that NEEDS his sleep!)
I do want to break away from this dependency, because that's what it is! He doesn't need milk at night nutritionally, and I'm wondering if I'm setting him up to associate food with comfort! I'm completely fine with letting him CIO when he's not teething, but then again, when is he NOT teething at this stage??! He has three molars that have just broken the surface!
Anyway, how did you do it, and how long did you have to hold your LO for to comfort him/her sans nursing? How did you handle the teething curveballs? When did you know it was time to CIO?
