1st pregnancy: 2 cycles (lots of sex, no tracking)
2nd pregnancy: 1 cycle - m/c (no tracking)
3rd pregnancy: 1 cycle (had sex once, wasn't really trying since I had m/c a few weeks before)
I feel very fortunate that it happened so easily for us so I wouldn't start trying until you're absolutely ready since it can happen quickly!!

1st pregnancy: first try but ended in miscarriage
2nd: around 3 months by ended in miscarriage
3rd: took a break after my miscarriages. Then took around 8-9 months which resulted in my son
4th: first "non-try" not trying but kind of preventing so kind of an oops baby and now I am 12 weeks
I never charted temped or used apps or anything.. I have always kept track of my periods in my planner and am fairly regular so we just always guesstimated.. If I had to I guess I would have but I never had the desire to keep track or felt the need

1st pregnancy- 1st month using pink pad app only ended in mc at 7 weeks
2nd pregnancy- 1st try 6 weeks after mc using pink pad resulted in my son.
3rd pregnancy- 2nd month trying using opks, ovia and pink pad app but ended as an ectopic
4th pregnancy- 1st month trying two months after ectopic using opks, pink pad, ovia, and fertility friend app and resulted in another ectopic.
It's been easy to conceive for us so it's been 3 months since the last ectopic and we decided to ntnp this month since I have an ultrasound set up for Friday to check my tube, ovaries, and uterus and then we'll actively TTC next month if I'm not already I'll be testing Friday if af doesn't show. I've only used fertility friend app this month.

For DD1, we tried for 9 months, with chemical pregnancies immediately preceding on months 7 and 8.
For DD2, we were NTNP for one month, and on the second month I actually used OPKs and we got pregnant. Never saw that coming!

First pregnancy: NTNP for 12-13 months and then got pregnant.
Second pregnancy: Got pregnant first month (temping and OPKs) but miscarried
Third pregnancy: Got pregnant immediately after miscarriage and am 27 weeks pregnant. Just used OPKs this time. I have very irregular cycles.

I forgot to add that I am also temping this cycle and did with the 3rd and 4th pregnancies cycles

With my son, it took 5 years (although I had a miscarriage in the middle, after 3 years). I ended up diagnosed with unexplained infertility, and got pregnant on my second round of IVF. With this pregnancy we weren't actually trying but we weren't preventing (because why would we? I'm infertile!), my son was 17 months when I got pregnant.

We were NTNP-ish (using FAM very loosely to prevent so I wouldn't call it truly preventing) and got the best surprise ever with LO. Feel very fortunate.
I am very nervous because we are waiting to TTC for another and I have heard a lot of stories about couples that got pregnant right away or by surprise for their first, and then couldn't get pregnant again for a while for their second.

I know this is off-topic and don't want to threadjack, but it is equally heartbreaking and helpful to see how many of us in this thread experienced losses. to all the mamas.

I've gotten pregnant 3 times, and each time on the first month I tried. But the first two were losses, and it took an HSG to clear me out and aspirin and progesterone support before I was able to get my sticky baby. So, 5 months from when we started trying until I got pregnant with LO.

@JoJoGirl: I agree. I didn't realize how common it actually was. I only know a couple people in real life who have had miscarriages so this is a bit of an eye opener.

Using Taking Charge of Your Fertility manually (writing my temps and charting by hand), I didn't have much success in conceiving, just preventing. When I used the Fertility Friend app, I was pregnant within a month. Best of luck to you!

15 months and 1 loss before we got our daughter. That was charting, temping, OPKs, etc. with LO2 (currently pregnant) it happened the very first month we tried!

1st pregnancy (ended in m/c) - first try
2nd pregnancy (LO) - second try
I was temping and using OPKs for both. Due to the m/c, it took 6 months between when we started trying and when we conceived LO.

@Honeygold89: How accurate is pink pad when compared to OPKs? I use the pink pad right now, but not as a form of birth control. It's more just to see if I can get good at tracking my cycles before we TTC. It seems to be pretty good, but I never know if I actually am ovulating when it says I do. I'm sorry for your losses.

6th Pregnancy - Timed, natural cycle with a RE after uterine surgery - resulted in current pregnancy (I'm 34 weeks)

3 years. We got pregnant the first month we tried and that ended in MC. We got pregnant again after 6 months where I was casually monitoring but had super irregular cycles and that ended in MC. Turns out I had a brain tumor which was affecting things so I had to have surgery and it took a year for my body to reboot its hormones and I didn't even cycle! Then I got pregnant my first cycle back and that's our son.

@2PeasinaPod: I just want to say that you are amazing.
1st pregnancy: 7 months, CP
2nd pregnancy: 4 months, resulted in DS
I have PCOS and basically don't ovulate on my own. So while it took close to a year to conceive, there were only actually 4 cycles (working with an RE). The first cycle I ovulated I had a CP. Then it took 3 more cycles after that for DS.

@2PeasinaPod: Thanks girl but YOU are the rock star. DH and I always talk about what a party we'll have in heaven some day with all our babies together, but YOU are going to have a rave!

First try. I understand the rarity of that, but you really never know what can happen so if you're not ready until next month maybe try to wait until then! That being said, would a month really make a difference? Some people who took longer to conceive wish they started sooner! Food for thought...
good luck!

I used fertility friend to track. First time around I went off the pill knowing I was out of town for the first cycle off. Pregnant the second cycle with zero effort/following the app.
Second time, again went off the ring knowing I would be out of the country for my fertile days again (not sure why I just like giving my body the 1 month break). 1st cycle - we were doing some of the things to try for a boy...so I used OPKs to track O...DTD once that cycle (for a boy they say to save up your swimmers) and got my BFP 11 days later.
Needless to say - after this baby...we will be very careful as we are clearly quite fertile.

LO1 - one cycle
LO2 - one cycle
With LO1, I tracked my temps and used an OPK. With LO2, we just used an OPK. We used OPK's twice a day and were aways good about DTD once we got the positive OPK. It can really go both ways - it can take months or years, but it can also take one try so make sure you are "ready" as can be. Good luck!

I got pregnant on the 2nd cycle of trying, but lost that one at 10 weeks. It then took us 16 months of active trying to get pregnant, and we didn't actually get pregnant until after our first IUI cycle. So, I guess I experienced both a fast BFP and how frustrating infertility can be. Like others have mentioned, I would say don't start TTC until you're READY, because it really can happen very quickly!!

@gingerbebe: That's crazy. You are amazing to have gone through all that.
@Mrs D: Interesting! Did the method work? Did you end up with a boy?
@leighleigh: A month actually could make a difference. I have started a couple projects around the house and I figure I need a month to complete them. If I got a BFP, I'll be in baby mode - I am a researcher/planner and can guarantee I'll be checking out books from the library like there's no tomorrow. And researching the best baby products out there (strollers, car seats, cribs, etc.) So one month and I'll be ready for all that.

I tracked in an app like you are and also used OPK's.
1st pregnancy - 2 cycles (1 messing around, 1 actively trying). Ended in MC at 7 weeks.
2nd pregnancy - 2 cycles (both actively trying). Ended in MC at 11 weeks.
Tested fetal tissue and ourselves and determined I have a balanced translocation between 18th and 20th chromosomes that will forever cause miscarriage/stillbirth/severe disability without intervention.
3rd pregnancy - 1 round (roughly Thanksgiving- New Years) IVF w/PGD resulted in my DS
So in total it took about 15 months to get pregnant with a sticky baby. I get pregnant easily, I just can't do it on my own without potentially serious repercussions, so we have to be really careful.

@JoJoGirl: I never realized how common pregnancy losses are before mine (I wasn't active on HB at the time). After I had mine, I realized I was part of a large club that no one wants to have to join, or talk openly about it (I know everyone has their own reason, but undeserved shame was a thing for me). Women I never knew had any issues shared their losses with me, including both of my sisters-in-law and my mother (2 between my older brother and me). It's a shitty club, and no one wants to be a member, but it brought a lot of comfort that I was absolutely not alone

Officially, one cycle.
I had been tracking my cycles for three years by temping. I would enter my information into an app and from there, I was able to determine that I had a 30-32 day cycle and when I was fertile. I checked a couple of times with OPKs to confirm before we began.
nectarine / 2527 posts
@LovelyPlum: thank you.
@Mrs. Peanut: it was very accurate for me when ttc #1. It was the only thing I used then and I got pregnant on the first try each time plus it helped that my cycles have always been super regular I use it even when I'm not ttc just to keep track of my cycles

One cycle for DD1. I temped and used the fertility friend app/site to track for 9 months beforehand and thought I had a pretty good idea of cycles but the cycle I conceived her, I O'd on CD42. I wouldn't have known to keep DTD because I hadn't O'd unless I was temping so very thankful for that!
DD2 was a result of tracking via FF app but failing to take into account the stress of moving and traveling. So instead of timing to prevent, we timed perfectly to conceive. I'm 28 weeks with DD2.

A depressing answer from me... A little over 3 years to conceive and that was through 6 failed IUIs and ultimately got pregnant through IVF.
I think I stopped counting cycles when I reached 28 cycles.
