My LO is 5 months and I'm wondering if I can just start washing his stuff with ours. I do like the smell of Dreft (it's just so "baby" to me!) but I don't know if it's still necessary.

I plan to keep it up for a long time, because we cloth diaper so it just goes hand-in-hand (plus he had a rash the one time that he wore normal-detergent clothes, just for 5 minutes!).
The family I used to babysit for still did baby detergent the first summer I was there (baby less than a year) but had moved to normal detergent by my 2nd summer (when she was almost 2).

With DD I washed her stuff in Dreft until she was one, mostly because that is when our supply ran out. With DS, who is almost 8 months old, his stuff will probably be washed in it longer because we got two HUGE containers of Dreft. We started to use Tide Free with DD, when we ran out of Dreft and she never had a reaction.

I only did it the first few times while he was a newborn. after that I switched to what me and DH use. he didn't have a problem with it.

We bought the big, bulk size Dreft before A was born and it recently ran out. I decided to just switch to our detergent because it's a "free" type anyways.
There are days where I miss that baby smell though. I'd be easily tempted to buy more dreft if I found a good sale

The first few times, then DH did a load and mixed everything together/added fabric softener. She was fine, no reaction so now everything gets washed together.

We did for a whole year but I don't really know why. I think you can just use the "free and clear" kind.

With our first I washed him stuff by itself for a couple of months and gave up. With our second I started washing his stuff with ours from the day he was born. We use unscented detergent and no dryer sheets (b/c of allergies) anyway.

We use All Free and Clear for the whole family! My friend used Dreft for 3 months and switched to regular Tide with no issues!

I've never used special baby detergent; we all use All "free and clear", which my husband and I have used for years. Baby detergent seems a little gimmicky, IMO, especially since many contain perfumes which can irritate the skin.

we all use the same detergent because we already use a free and clear (no dye, perfume, hypoallergenic) detergent for my DH's sensitive skin. It's convenient just having to buy one detergent!
also, I found that Dreft didn't work very well at all for getting spots out.

we've always used free and clear detergent since charlie was born so we just do it all together.

We have always just used tide free and clear or honest company detergent. After using unscented for so long, whenever I smell regular detergent it makes me nauseous since it's so fragrant!

I've never bothered with a special detergent. My skin is actually very sensitive, so I considered it but just never got around to buying one (plus I never actually found any in my normal grocery stores). She has perfect skin and it's never been a problem. I do wash all her clothes separate, but she uses the same detergent we use.

We never used a special detergent. My husband has psoriasis and eczema and I have a sensitivity to perfumes so we just used the detergent we already used for LOs clothing.

I stopped maybe around 9 months. Our tide seemed to get out all of his stains better. We haven't had any problems since the switch.

We use Method for all our clothes, so we'll probably just stick with that for baby clothes too.

Never, I use unscented detergent (Seventh Generation) for all of our stuff.
honeydew / 7917 posts
I have never washed my LO's clothes separately, and I use Seventh Generation or Charlie's soap on our clothes. I can't imagine doing a separate load with special detergent. Washing cloth diapers is enough for me.

I used the one regular sized bottle of Dreft that we got and haven't bought any special detergent since. We use All F&C already, and it's totally fine for her skin.

I never did! Just used our regular detergent and figured we could change it if it seemed to be irritating baby's skin but it never did.

We never bothered with a special detergent - just use the same stuff we use for our clothes, which is also nothing fancy. I wash LO's clothes separately and use a bit less detergent and higher water level. DH just throws all the clothes in together and sets the washer on normal. LO hasn't had any issues.

I use a fragrance and whatever else free detergent for all our laundry.

I still use dreft on DS's clothes and he's 3.5...I love the baby smell too! I'm in denial that he's getting to old to have his clothes smell like a baby.

Unless someone buys us a bottle of Dreft, we plan to just use a free and clear from the start. It's safe for cd'ing, so we won't have to use a bunch of different detergents.
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
Never did. I make my own detergent so I wash everything with that. But I do wash her clothes separately and do plan to for a while.

I use Method Free and Clear detergent for DD's clothes and wash out clothes separate. I would just use free and clear for the whole family but at the beginning of last year, DH scored a deal and bought 6 bottles of Tide. Yes - 6!!! It's like a lifetime supply omg......

I make my own - ivory soap, borax, and washing soda. I assume itll be fine.

I switched to natural "green" laundry (and all cleaning) detergent when I was pg so I've always used the same ones for our clothes and DS's clothes.
cherry / 110 posts
We only used the small bottle until it ran out, probably 2 months? Then I started washing with our normal stuff which is natural, but wouldn't use dryer sheets. Just switched to using vinegar as a laundry softener so I'm washing everyones clothes with the same regimen. Also, just started using dryer balls to help dry our clothes faster. I do miss the fresh laundry smell though. Thinking of adding some pretty smelling soap bars to our (the grown ups) drawers for a little scent.
