My son was 9lbs 9 oz and nearly 22 inches but lost a lb after being born and wore newborn size clothes for a little while. I cannot for the life of me remember how long he wore them.
If you had a "big" baby and they wore newborn, how long was that?

My son was 9 lbs 8 oz 22" but was down it 8 lbs 6 oz when we left the hospital. He used exactly 2 big boxes of NB pampers from Sam's Club. I can't remember the time frame though.

@crazydoglady: O, in that case, never. He was too long for sleepers and onesies. The pants fit but was a little short. I told everyone to not buy me newborn because they were pretty sure he'd be big.

Never! My husband and I were both big babies (9lbs 10oz and 9lbs 13oz) so we requested people only get us 0-3 month or 3 month and up clothes. DD1 was only 8 lb 7 oz but she grew super fast and never lost weight and outgrew the 0-3 month clothes within a few weeks, and was in 6 month clothes a little before 3 months. Someone gave us newborn Gerber onesies and sleep gowns and she never fit in them. DD2 was 8lb 3oz and we didn’t really buy any new clothes for her and even being smaller she was fine not having newborn clothes.

DS1 was 10 1/2 pounds and never wore them. He went straight to 0-3. DS2 was a little over seven pounds. He wore newborn for about a month?

Both my kids were over 8 lbs (8.1 and 8.5) but both wore newborn clothes longer than I expected. At least the first month or two. But as they grew both kids turned out to be pretty small, like 20th percentile for height and weight. I had always heard not to buy too many newborn clothes and had to send DH out to buy some more sleepers because the others were so big.
It probably made a difference that they both had big heads- maybe most of their weight was up there.

My first was 8lbs 8oz and wore newborn for a few weeks. He grew out of sleepers faster than other clothes because he was long.

Never, both of mine were over 9 lbs and I honestly skipped newborn clothes. The 0-3 were big for a bit but I knew I was having big babies and just did not want to chance it. My second baby was 9 lbs 9 oz and is almost five weeks old, she is already outgrowing 0-3 in some cases. Both were long though, 21.5” and 20.5”.

Not big, but long. My 21.5” NB wore NB clothes for 3 weeks before outgrowing in length.

DS was 8 lbs 12 oz and 21 inches, but lost more than 10% of his weight and took awhile to get back up. He was in NB clothes longer than expected, maybe 6 weeks? Meanwhile he's now 21 months and firmly in 3T lol!

DS was 8lbs5oz and 21 inches - wore them for a month.
DD was 8lbs7oz and 21.5 inches - wore them for about 3 weeks.

My bigger one never. Maybe we shoved him in one for a photo! But he was 9lb 13oz and over 22”. We had to ask for size 1 diapers at the hospital because the nb size wasn’t long enough to cover his bum!
My first was 8lb 9oz and she maybe wore for a week or two, we didn’t have much nb size anyway. Length was the problem.

My oldest was 8lb 13oz and he wore NB for exactly two weeks. I remember because he turned two weeks old on Thanksgiving and he had the cutest turkey sleeper. He barely squeezed into it and the next day, he started wearing 0-3 months.

@crazydoglady: literally less than a week. My kids were both 8 lbs, but all torso. We are undecided on a third, but I've donated all of the newborn stuff because it got not use.
My 11 weeker is solidly in 9 month clothes. We were in 6 months around 6 weeks

I tried to put my 9.14 oz baby in a nb sleeper at the hospital and it didn’t fit...so I skipped nb clothes completely except for maybe a few onesies/diaper shirts for 2 weeks, depended on the brand. Nb diapers also didn’t fit. Then my second was 8.12 and was in nb diapers and clothes for a few weeks; I think 3. Not more than that.

@bhbee: I had to use the size 1s I packed in my bag on my mother’s advice because she said she never used newborn diapers for any kid.

@crazydoglady: my boy was 9 lbs, 21" and was in NB clothes for 3 or 4 weeks, NB diapers for 2-3 weeks. I was glad I had them because for that little bit he was kind of swimming in the 0-3/ size 1's. my husband and I are both tall and I expect to make another big baby, but wondering if the girl will be a touch smaller just because she's a girl? have you considered that, too?

DS Was 9.7 I think. He could have squeezed in Nb But we went strait to 0-3 and weren't there for long either.

My baby was 10lbs 7oz. I squeezed her into two newborn outfits for photos. Otherwise she skipped newborn size clothes and diapers.

@LCTBQE: That's what I was thinking but if my weight gain is any indication...shes going to weigh 20 lbs.

About 3 weeks too. My first was about 6.5 lb so I was surprised to have a 8.5 lb second baby. All those cute onesies the first wore barely even got cycled through once with the second

DS was 9lbs 5oz. I had one NB size outfit that was gifted and he wore it twice in the first couple weeks then it was too small. I expect this guy will be big too and plan on skipping NB size clothes unless I'm gifted something.
We were given one box of NB size diapers with DS and they were almost too small by the time we used them up.

Mine was under 7 lbs and still only wore newborn stuff for three or four weeks! She put on weight really quickly over the first 6 weeks, though.

Never! I didn't even buy any. My daughter was exactly 9 lbs and went straight into 0-3 month onesies when we got home. At first, the Gerber onesies fit her the best, and it took a month or so for her to grow into Carters and Old Navy.

I underestimated the size of my son at birth and my husband went out to buy some newborn things that he wore for about a month. FWIW, he was 7.5 pounds and about 19 inches. I was expecting at least a 9 pounder and had purchased plenty of 0-3 month stuff.
apricot / 285 posts
@crazydoglady @lctbqe my second was a girl and she was heavier but an inch shorter than my son. She has since not grown as quick as he did, still above 90th percentile though.
We were team green but I guessed girl for this pregnancy, my husband kept saying girls are smaller it can’t be a girl with how big the baby is measuring and my weight gain. Well it was!

DS1 was 8lbs 3oz at birth and wore newborn size for about a month.
DS2 was 9 lbs 11 oz at birth and never wore newborn size. He went straight to 3 month.
