He took off two weeks when DD was born, worked a week, and then took one more week off for the holidays. The upside of a December baby

DH only gets 2 days paternity leave, but he's using vacation time to take a total of 2 weeks, which is the 'norm' in his office he was told. They said if he wanted more time than that he'd need special approvals and that didn't seem necessary since my mom will come after the 2 weeks to help me out, and then his mom will be here in June and he'll take an additional week's vacation time to hang with us when she's here. Although he was told that if there was some reason he wanted to take off longer when the time comes (like if I'm having a particularly hard recovery and he doesn't want to leave me) he can either tell them at that time he wants to extend, or he can work from home for another week or so.
I'm a little jealous of people whose DH's are able to take like 6 weeks off, but I'm also grateful for what my DH is able to do and that his company seems pretty family friendly and reasonable about staying flexible to see how things are going for us.

I am in the jealous category too. He doesn't get any paid paternity leave so the plan is a week off and then a week working half days and working from home some depending on what works best when we get there. I am a little worried because I am looking forward to that time as our own little family and I know he has a few big projects going on at work.

Two weeks and then worked 3 days per week for about 6 weeks after that. It was nice!

Only 1 week, and she was in the NICU the whole time. Next time he's planning on 2 weeks.

ZERO.
He has the type of job that he cannot leave the office pretty much .He was really great though. He only went in the AM for a few hours, brought us back food at lunch time and then worked from home (cell phone) for the rest of the day.
He did this for maybe the first 6-8weeks and basically, his office is 10 mins away or less, so he popped in and out within those 4 hours that he was at work. I guess it does suck that his job is so demanding, but at least he is able to be so flexible with how and where the work gets done. Also, I wasn't really the 'stay indoors' type after I had the baby. I was out and about!

DH is a SAH so he was there my entire leave (14 or so weeks) which was a godsend since we had two babies.

@anonysquire: That was DH the whole time, treating it like a vacation. I didn't appreciate his motivation!

1- A week and then he worked from home for a week.
2- A little over a week, just for her nicu stay. By the time she came home he had to go back to work.

2 weeks with DD
1 week with DS
I was so scared to be alone his first day back at work as a FTM... I made it though. Whew.

Dd1 1.5 days, Dd2 1day. He has a really hard time being away from the office.

@pinkcupcake: Yup. He had more leave than I did! And I pushed out a watermelon!

DH claims he will take 2 weeks... but he is a workaholic so I'm sure he will just be on his phone the whole time and/or driving me nuts trying to make me be productive so I will probably be shoving him out the door!

He was approved to use 3 weeks of paid vacation and anything else extra needed additional approval. He only ended up using 5 days though. I had continuous visitors for a couple of months and he would sleep when baby slept. I didn't need him home to nap with us so I wanted him to save the vacation time for dr appointments and winter months.

I think it was 10 or 11 days?? Not long enough!
ETA: Just wanted to brag on my employer that dads here get 6 weeks paid parental leave, just like moms do! If both mom and dad work here, mom gets 6 weeks paid and dad gets 2 weeks paid.

4 days that I was in the hospital + 2 weeks. He only had 3 days of paternity leave so the rest was vacation time

I think it was 10 weeks. I know he went back before she turned 3 months. If we ever have another, I want him to take at least 6 months off!

@swurlygurl: ya I wasn't laughing at it. Luckily he works for my dad and my dad had the same thoughts as me and pretty much made him come back. And his family didn't end up visiting so he didn't need to be around

Just a week. We didn't think he'd be able to take even that much until DS was born, actually, and his bosses surprised him with a short paternity leave.
DD is due July 6th and he'll be taking the same amount of time.

2 weeks and then he came home early for another week or so. I hope he can do the same or longer this time!

A total of five weeks (3 weeks of paternity leave and two weeks of annual leave with which he also played a week of golf). In hindsight it was probably too long and three weeks would've been ideal.

He got 3 days of paternity leave that was butted up onto a weekend.
He could have used vacation time, but he didn't have a lot and we decided that since my mom was there to help he would save the vacation for if I needed him home after she left.

Just 3 days. I would have loved to have him here for a month - that sounds so luxurious!

One day--the day we had him! But I can't complain. Since he had to work and my family wasn't helping out, he happily hired someone to help me, which was a godsend.

With #1 he took 3 weeks- we could have used another week.
With #2 he took 2 weeks (plus weekends), but our little darling didn't arrive until 1 week into his leave. He had to choose dates ahead of time for his schedule, so it was pretty sucky planning for our son to come early as the doctor was sure would happen and waiting and waiting. Luckily recovery was a breeze, so things worked out well but we would have loved to have more time off.

dh had 2 days off for my induction. Hoping he'll get 2 weeks off when we have another.

2 glorious weeks! He was only going to take 2-3 days off so he could have spent a week home with us total (off weekends) but I was having a rough time and the "baby blues" hit me HARD straight out of the gate. So I needed him to take more and he did.

1 week paternity and 3 weeks vacation. It was glorious! I think we will do the same for #2

We're gonna have DH take one week of vacation when baby boy comes. No paternity leave for us either! Wish he could stay home longer though.
