Maybe I'm totally forgetting what it's like to have an infant, but how long does it take you to calm your baby and fall asleep for naps? Sweet P (her nickname!) will be 4 weeks tomorrow (I can't believe it!), and she often has a hard time falling asleep and it takes a LONG time to calm her down. I don't remember Little P being like this, but maybe he was?
We feed her every 3 hours to make sure she's getting enough feedings in the day, but in the evening, and sometimes as late as her feedings around midnight she will NOT fall asleep. It will take us as long as 2 hours to calm her down, with rocking, swaying then laying her down calm, only for her to start screaming again and us trying to start all over. I don't know if this is colic or other tummy issues or normal babies "stuff." Our pediatrician says we're doing all we can do and sometimes you CAN'T make a baby calm down and sleep, but it's exhausting for everyone! Plus, her room is right next door to Little P's, so it often wakes him up if he's already sleeping, which then means BOTH of us are up attempting to soothe a baby.
Usually during the day, we feed her, have some awake time, and then when she starts looking sleepy we swaddle her and rock her until she's pretty much sleeping, then we put her in the Rock & Play and she will sleep for an hour or two (with a wake up here or there that needs soothing), but this does NOT work for at least 2-4 "cycles", usually late evening. What is your experience? Does this seem normal?
