I was off of it for over a year before conceiving dd because of the side effects.
Planning to ttc sometime between dec and April and not sure when to stop bcp?

I was really anxious to get started TTC, and really paranoid that it would take me forever to ovulate or get my period, so I went off 4 + months before we started TTC. My doctor told me to give it one full cycle, though, more to make tracking due date and LMP than for any other reason.
Last time you went off it, did you start getting a regular period fairly quickly? That's probably a good indication.

I was on BCP for 7 years before we started TTC, so I purposefully went off it early because I figured it would take awhile for my body to regulate. I went off it in May and we started TTC in November and we were successful the first time.
ETA: I also used those months where I was off it but we were preventing to chart and become more familiar with my cycle/fertility signs. I think this helped immensely in being able to conceive so quickly.

I wasn't on it for very long, went on it last May and went off this March. I got my BFP on April 27. I don't know if it makes a difference that DS was only 14 months old when I got pregnant again, instead of years and years of BCP.

@Foodnerd81: I've never really been regular except on bc. But coincidentally the last like 3 cycles before I got pregnant were pretty regular.. We were shocked it happened so fast last time and I'm not sure what to expect this time!
@MamaBehr: I've only been on it a couple of months so hopefully that helps!
@lawbee11: tbh I don't really want to get too intense with it... Stresses me out! I'd like a little element of surprise too.

@googly-eyes: Totally agree. Plus since you already have a LO it would probably be even more stressful/difficult to do.

@lawbee11: Same-- I charted during those months off-- more to set my mind at ease that I was ovulating than anything else, but after a short while we also used it as prevention (knowing the way I was doing it wasn't foolproof but that we were TTC soon anyway).
@googly-eyes: Charting didn't add stress, it actually took away stress, for me, but I'm weird. I liked knowing exactly when to expect my period though, and knowing that we had hit the fertile window when we started trying.

@googly-eyes: I went off it for a year ahead of time and took prenatals & DHA 3 months ahead. I haven't gone back on it since having LO #1 and hope to TTC at the end of the year.

@googly-eyes: I stopped early and my dr actually said that wasn't the smartest move because you should ovulate immediately after going off it.

I went off 16 months before NTNP. I went off because it was causing me headaches though, not because we wanted to go off that early to be prepared for TTC.

i'm about to go off it, about 2 months before ttc. last time i had no troubles and had a regular period/ovulation as soon as i went off.

When we restart TTC this fall, I will have been off BCP for 16 months!! I had regular cycles right off the bat coming off BCP but once the chemicals left my body for good my cycles went completely haywire and I feel like i am JUST starting to get back on track. So in a way, I am glad for this break we're having right now so my body can get back on track when we restart, and I don't believe I'm going to ever go back on BCP until I am done having kids bc it was so awful having those irregular cycles after!

I was on BC for 12 years. Went off it and had one period before I got pregnant before my MC. My dr had recommended waiting 2 periods before trying to conceive.

I was on it nearly 2 years and went off 2 months before actively TTC. It took 3 cycles of actively TTC to get a BFP.

I went off them and we started TTC right away, but it took 3 month to get pregnant anyway. After the m/c, it took 7 more months, so I don't think regulating off BC was the problem for me. I have crazy long cycles (40-50 days), which is the main reason I was put on BC in the first place.

I'd say one or two cycles. I was off of it for three cycles before we started trying, conceived on the 4th cycle. For the next time, I'm thinking one cycle and then start trying.

Thanks for all the insight ladies! Still not 100% sure what I'll do but I'm definitely taking all your advice into consideration!
@Foodnerd81: I think it depends on the person whether charting adds or lessens stress. Last time I had a guesstimate about when I O'd but wasn't really sure and when my dating U/S was off by a few days I was worried. It turned out fine, dd caught up, but had I been charting, I'd have been freaking out.

My doctor told me to wait 4 months in order for my body to regulate and eliminate any excess hormones.

My doctor said 1 month should be enough to get it back on track since I only took BCPs for birth control, but I ended up going off 4ish months before TTC. I'm glad I did because it took several cycles for me to become regular.

I went off BD and we started trying that month. My doctor said that it was perfectly fine to do it that way. She actually recommends that. She think you are more fertile the first 3 months. I guess she was right, cause cycle 3 we got our BFP.

@googly-eyes: I definitely agree it's different for different people! I actually think for most people it would add more stress instead of less. I'm just a weirdo
