My midwives send most people home 3 hours after giving birth, assuming now complications. That seems insane to me, by insane I mean scary!!!
Has anyone else gone home that quick?
How long did you stay in the hospital?

I went on Tuesday for my induction, delivered by C-section on Thursday and went home Saturday afternoon!

I was there for 5 days. Definitely not the norm I think, though.

I went in at 3am on Friday, had my baby around noon on Saturday and was discharged sometime on Sunday. Unfortunately, ds was in for 15 days.
I'm going to a birth center this time around also (as long as I go full term) and I'm happy to know I'll be going home shortly afterwards!

I was there 5 days.....but that was with a complicated emergency csection. It would have been 48 hours with reg vag delivery.

3 days, but I had a c section.
It may be nice to go home so soon. You can rest up in your own comfy bed and bond in familiar surroundings. Plus you won't have constant wake ups to check on you on top of the baby waking.

I would have loved to go home at three hours. If I had been able to give birth in the Birth Centre, I could have. As it happened, I have birth Tuesday at 8:30am and left the hospital Wednesday around 4pm. But then, they send a midwife to your house to check on you the day after you get home, so you know you aren't on your own.

@sslm: My midwives said that I will have the option to go home as soon as 3 hours after the birth, but can certainly stay longer if I wish.
My plan is to leave as soon as baby and I feel well enough. Our local hospital, despite being a regional centre and having a brand new women's and children's wing, offers VERY few private postpartum rooms, so I will likely be in a semi-private room. The idea of having to share a room during such an intimate, private time creeps me out. I also hear that it's pretty much impossible to get rest while in hospital and that my chances are better at home.
Will have to actually wait and see though to see how I feel in the moment!

I went to the hospital around 4 am on a Saturday. DS was born after 9pm that night via csection and I was discharged the following Tuesday.

With DD 2 we stayed the standard couple of days and I LOVED being in the hospital. Having someone else cook for you (and the food was pretty good), having extra sets of hands with the baby so you can get some rest. We really enjoyed our time there.
With DD 3, we were just ready to get home. We arrived at 11:56 Thursday night and she was born at 1:56 AM Friday. We actually left a day early and got home Saturday evening. It wasn't as great of a stay and we were so ready to be home with our older girls.

I went in on Tuesday afternoon when I'd been in labor for a while. He was born Wednesday morning and we went home Friday mid-day.
ETA after he was born I loved being at the hospital. It was nice to have support staff right there to answer all my questions. I saw the lactation consultants about 50 times!

2 days and I felt like that was so soon. But more because I was scared to bring LO home and be a parent than recovery time.

With DD induction was started at 7:30AM Thursday and we went home around 12PM Saturday (about 2 1/2 days)
With DS induction was started at 6:30AM Sunday and we went home around 1PM Monday (about 1 day)

went in wednesday morning for induction, had him wednesday evening by csection went home saturday afternoon. my doc was going to let me go home friday, but the pediatrian convinced me to stay an extra day to get more help with BFing(it didn't help...)

We went in Saturday night, induced early Sunday, c-section early Tuesday, discharged Friday. It was a long week. I was cleared for discharge on Thursday but LO had to stay an extra night because she lost too much weight.

I blacked out around 4 hrs post delivery, so that would kind of scare me in hindsight! But I had twins with ginormo placentas, so with the blood loss, I'm sure no one would have actually let me leave.
Delivered on a friday night. Would have been discharged sunday morning, but had bladder complications so we stayed until monday lunchtime.

Oh and I was totally not ready to leave after 2 days, but after 3 it was perfect. I think you get mama instinct for when you are ready to be home, and its different for every delivery.

Went in Wednesday night to start induction, had her Thursday night, and went home Monday afternoon. Due to having a bleeding disorder and a history of my mum having pp hemorrhage in both births I needed to be kept under observation. They didn't want to let me go until Tuesday, but I begged my midwife to go early. I was sharing a room with 2 other women and their babies cried non-stop, and when they had visitors - about 10 came at a time. It was so good to go home!

I was in for about 36 hours with DD and 4days with DS. I was ready to go home within a few hours, though, and if there hadn't been extentuating circumstance swith both kids, we would have been able to go within 12 hours.

I went in Wednesday night for induction, delivered at 11:46pm on Thursday night, discharged on Saturday.

I delivered lunch time on a Tuesday, and I could easily have gone home within 3 - 5 hours if I wanted. I think the midwife asked if I wanted to be discharged at 5pm that day. I decided to stay another night, and went home Wednesday evening

27 hours. LO was born less than 2 hours after arriving and then we left the next evening. I hated being there and just wanted to go home! Normally they would have kept us another night.

I was there 5 days vaginal delivery but I got really sick afterwards.

I went in on a Wed. morning around 10am and left on a Friday morning around 11am, so about 48 hours from beginning to end.

I delivered at 7:48 on Wednesday but had to stay until 7:48 on Friday because I didn't have time for two full doses of antibiotics for my Group B Strep and they had to monitor LO.

@sslm: I wish I was sent home that early. We were ignored all night by the staff and I couldn't even get the things I needed since we needed a nurse to help us. We ran out of diapers and still no help.
We would have been better off at home. My OB wanted to keep me one more day because of my hypertension and I flat out refused. I was out of there in 24 hours.

Got there Saturday morning, delivered that night, left Monday lunchtime. Next time I'm leaving (barring complications, of course) after 1 night.

2 nights. Standard is one night but we were having some BFing issues so they said we could stay one more night. Next time 1 night is enough.

@Mrs. Jacks: A neglectful nurse is the reason we ended up staying so long with DD and the same nurse almost made us stay an extra day with DS. I just wanted to go home!

@Honeybee: Sheesh! My labor nurse was amazing. Like seriously, if I saw her I'd still hug and kiss her. I had high hopes for post-partum, but they were REALLY bad. Lazy and annoyed . One of them almost destroyed breastfeeding by jamming Lala's face into me. She was oral averse after that and was so dehydrated that she almost got readmitted

@Mrs. Jacks: Poor baby. After the second time with thee same awful nurse, we ended up complaining to the head nurse. She was awful in so many ways.

I went into labor on a Monday night getting to the hospital around 10pm. I had my LO on Tuesday morning. We left the hospital on Thursday, my due date.

My midwife said I could ho after 4 hours and I could have but I didn't want to so they let me stay over night. With my second I had a c-section so I had to stay in the hospital for 2 days.

@sslm: THREE HOURS? No way!
I was in for 5 days and until the last few hours, I needed it.
For baby #2 I would understand wanting to get home sooner and have baby #2 meet big sibling.

I was there for 2 nights. I really could have gone home the morning after I gave birth, and i delivered at 1:05pm. I stayed in the hospital to avoid Hurricane Sandy...only to lose power in the hospital and be evacuated. That story will be posted later!

I was admitted at around 2300 on the Monday, delivered at 1424 on Tuesday and discharged at around 1500 on Thursday. Baby was a ventouse delivery and I had an episiotomy and I was given the option of staying another day.
I should also mention that I'm in New Zealand and under the care of a midwife who visited us at home every day for about four days once we went home.
