From start of induction to birth: 53 hours!!
I went home after 36 but went into labor that night and had to go back. I was in the hospital for almost a week! It was horrible, but I'm glad my body decided to go into labor and I didn't need any pitocin once it got started.

From the time my water broke to the time I was fully dilated... a little over 4 hours, but it ended in an emergency c-section

Mild contractions started around 4pm Sunday. Major contractions started at 4am Monday. Baby was here at 11:49am Monday. So....almost 8 hours.

@yellowbird: Holy crap! 53 hours!! I have never heard of anyone having labor that long.

Pitocin kicked in around 5 p.m. on Friday, and I didn't have LO until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday. So, 27 hours of labor, an hour or so to labor down before pushing, and then 1 hour of pushing.

@yellowbird: My induction was awful! I didn't progress *at all* until right at the end (everything happened in the last 3 hours!).

@yellowbird: This makes me scared to give birth in June. Were you in pain the entire time?

First contractions 5:00pm Thursday
Started pushing 10:30 am Friday
Delivered at 3:30pm Friday
So, 22.5 hours.
Labored at home for 8 or 9 hours, got epidural when I got to the hospital at 2 or 3 am. Napped until 10cm, which was good because I pushed for 5 hours!!!!!

@MsLipGloss: it was terrible!
@swedishfish: almost the whole time. I went in at 5pm on Wednesday. They placed a foley balloon around 8:00. Contractions started around an hour later and were painful!! They weren't productive though because the balloon didn't come out until 12:00pm the next day. I was 2cm dilated. They started pitocin at 2:00pm. Painful contractions continued until 10:00 when they turns it off because I wasn't progressing. They gave me something to sleep. I woke up te next morning having mild contractions, but convinced the OB to let me go home on bedrest because I felt like I was headed toward c-sec because of failed induction. I got home at 9am and by 12pm I was having very painful timeable contractions, but I didn't know if I was in labor because of all I just went through.
They got to the point where I would have to kneel through them and I stayed in the shower for an hour. By 6:00 I decided we had to go back to the hospital! I was 5cm thank god! Then I got an epidural around 9pm and was ready to push around 3 hours later. That while time was pain free and amazing after such a long time in pain.
Thinking back, it was all worth it!

@leelee: Wow....exactly like me, except LO was born at 6:15pm. Crazy!

@hellobeeboston: 5 hours of pushing?! I wanted to hit someone when they told me they would *allow* me to push for 3! But by the time it came to push my epidural was long gone, so I wasn't exactly thinking clearly!

I shouldn't have read this thread. At 36 weeks, I am scared already of what to expect during labor and now I really am!

@Smurfette: If you had described my birth experience to me before I had BabyGloss, I would have told you there was no way I could do that and that you were seriously crazy! But in the moment, you just keep going, one minute and one decision at a time . . . and your DH is right there with you. You can totally do it. And you won't be scared. You will be ready.

16.5 hours from water breaking (no contractions yet) to birth.. 1.5 hours of pushing!
This sounds stupid, but I went into labor on 9/11, and apparently my in-laws were praying for the baby not to be born on 9/11, so I blame them for my labor taking so long! (DS was born at 12:26am the next day) I only found out that they did this later or I would have immediately told them to cut it out, haha...

With my first, my water was broken at 1:30 and he was born at 7:45pm, so around six hours. But! Four freaking hours of that were pushing. Ugh.
With my second, I started feeling contractions around 8:00pm or so, but they didn't get painful until around 12:30. She was born at 2:00am, so still six hours, but only about an hour and a half of pain and - best of all - eight minutes of pushing.

@MsLipGloss: That is what I am hoping for. Everyone tells me that you forget about the pain afterwards anyway. I think that it is the unknown that scares me so much.
honeydew / 7235 posts
@MsLipGloss: ha - i know! if someone told me I was going to push for 5 hours I think I would have cried and been even more terrified than I already was! honestly - it went sorta fast (not the end) and I think I was pushing 'wrong' in the beginning even though they kept saying i was doing great. once I got the mirror in, it really helped - I think my boy was just big! he was only 8lbs 3oz, but it was just hard to get him out! I was really really lucky that me & the babe did well and were allowed to push that long without any interventions!
@Smurfette: you TOTALLY forget the pain, like very soon after. my LO is only 4 months and I feel like the whole birth experience is a complete blur. Even though i had a semi-long labor, I really loved my birth experience and totally want to do it again! (hopefully with a shorter pushing time)

My water broke at 5:30 pm, and she was born at 10:31 pm...but by c-section because she was breech. It only took so long because I had had a snack recently (duh. I was 39 weeks pregnant.), and they like the stomach to be empty for the C. So I had a few hours of contractions while I stared at the clock. And now I'm even more in awe of you natural birth ladies!

From the start of time-able contractions to delivery 32 hours.
GOLD / cantaloupe / 6703 posts
From the start of monitorable contractions (9:30 Saturday night) to holding our little girl (11:42 Monday morning) was 38 hours and 12 minutes. I only pushed for less than 40 of those minutes.
