I'd love to precook all of our meals, but I'm a big paranoid weirdo about leftovers. I typically won't eat leftovers that have been in the fridge for more than 1-2 days.

2 days. I got horrific food poisoning from a restaurant once (put me in the hospital for IV fluids), so now I'm a paranoid freakazoid about ever getting it again. I know it's excessive and I don't care

Usually 2 or 3 days. Not more than 3. Myh usband on the other hand will eat them for up to a week so long as it passes the sniff test

It depends what it is. 4-5 days or so at the outside limit? Less for things that go soggy or dried out, less.
I cook chicken breast on Monday nights, and will usually eat it in various forms up till Thursday.

My DH is horrible at eating leftovers so we usually toss it out by day 3 if it hasn't been eaten again. If I cook things in batches, I prefer to freeze it since it will last longer.

It definitely depends on what it is and how it's been packed. Like if I make a big pot of soup and portion it out into separate servings I can eat it for 4-5 days. Same thing with pasta salad that is not mayo based.
ETA: other stuff usually 2-3 days

For me, up to a week depending on the food. For LO, not more than 3 days.

If it isn't the next day I won't eat it, everyone else will though. I toss after two days.

Usually 3 days. Though I have accidentally eaten 6 day old food and I lived. I mis-remembered when I had actually cooked it... husband reminded me after I already finished! Oops.

Depends on what it is, and how long it was out of the refrigerator on the way home. I'm very careful about animal products.

I'm a next day only kind of girl! If I'm going to leave it longer than that, I freeze it (then forget to eat it!!)

I've never been a big fan of leftovers unless it's something yummy from a restaurant. That being said, if there are leftovers in the fridge, I'll usually toss after 4 days if they haven't been eaten.

I said 4 days, but we know we don't eat leftovers. We try to be good and save them but they always go bad. So, anything leftover gets made into dog food (if it's ok for them) or tossed.

3-4 days for prepared meals as long as it looks/smells ok. Sometimes I'll pre-cook a bunch of chicken/hamburger/steak at the beginning of the week, then I have no problem using that for at least a week.

Wow, I'm so surprised at how many people either don't do leftovers or toss after a few days! I plan our weekly meals to include leftovers, they're my favorite, haha! My threshold is about a week, although I have eaten stuff that was older when I was desperate

Around a week! Esp if something like mac n cheese. One box lasts a week for R.

I didn't vote b/c it depends on what it is. I can eat things up to 4-5 days of it being in the fridge. Some items are more 1-2 days.

depends.... if they're leftovers usually 4 days tops. if it's something i cook and store right away maybe up to a week.

It depends on what type of food it is and what it looks like/smells like. But I've eaten food that was pretty old because it looked okay and I've never gotten sick.

We give all of our leftovers a week usually, though depending on what it is, it might get inspected first, haha.
persimmon / 1404 posts
Next day only. If they're not eaten within ~24 hours they get tossed.

We toss leftovers after a week, but everything gets sniffed before we eat it!

DH works in food safety- he says 3-5 days (including the day you made it) if it is in an air-tight container.
I think it also depends on whether it is a vegetarian dish (personally).

I would up to a week-ish, I guess? Leftovers don't last long at our house though. We each need lunch every day, and L usually has to eat before dinner is ready. Plus, if there are enough leftovers for dinner for both of us, I am NOT cooking!
Leftovers are my friends
