I would have enough for at least a day. It gets really old washing them multiple times per day. We have 10 and it's been a good number.

I would have at least two full days worth. Yu never know when baby will be having a bad nursing day or not stick exactly to schedule and you'll use more bottles than expected. Also, the Dr Browns bottles are great for gas but they are a huge pain to wash because they have so many parts. So you'll want extras if you need a rest from all the constant washing.

@bluestriped bee: a day and a half is the absolute minimum I would keep on hand. Also, I bought those super cheap Gerber 8 oz bottles to pump into, in addition to the babies' bottles. No way around it, there will be a LOT of bottle washing!

We had a million - probably 24? of the 5 oz size plus a bunch of 2.5 oz because that's what they started on. We didn't move fully to 8 oz bottles until around 9-10 months, so we only had 8 of those. I know it sounds like overkill, but there's nothing worse than having two upset hungry babies and finding that all your bottles are dirty. For the most part we've always washed in the dishwasher once per day.

@bluestriped bee: We got a million little bottles from the hospital, and I use them to store milk in the fridge before I either use it or move it to bags for freezing. Get as many as you can; they're super handy to have!

Also, for what it's worth, the LC recommendation of dr Browns bottles is based on the shape of the nipple, not gas issues. But they really are a lot of parts if you don't use the dishwasher.

@bluestriped bee: I would do at least 12 to start. I know dr Browns now makes bottles that can have the middle parts removed as the baby gets older so you can continue to use their bottles without so many parts. They are a lot of parts but I thought they were really worth it and bought for my October baby too.
