All the talk of the upcoming U.S. election and politics on here has me wondering if people are staunch supporters of a single political party or have changed their mind over time.
If you've always supported a single party, did your family support the same or different? Or did you initially support one, and change your mind for the other/another?

I've voted for both. I voted Republican by absentee in 2004 because that's how I was registered. I changed my registration once I got married in 2007 and have voted Democrat ever since.

I'm quite liberal (small L), but have voted for all three of my country's major political parties. I carefully consider how my vote will affect the whole country, and not just how it affects me, which is why my voting record has had me voting for a party that doesn't necessarily share the same values as me.

I was always a registered Democrat until I moved to WA, where you don't declare party affiliation. I haven't always voted along party lines, but the majority of the candidates I've voted for have been Democrat or Independent/3rd Party candidates.

I've voted for three different parties over the years. I always make the effort to really look into the policies and to make a decision based on who I most agree with.

I've been registered as Green and as Democrat, but I've voted for Green, Democrat, Independent, Working Families Party, and Socialist Party candidates.

I typically vote (Canadian) Conservative, but have voted for our Liberal party in the past as well federally. Provincially I've voted for both Liberal and NDP depending on their platforms in a given year.

I've only voted Democrat but I was a registered Republican until just recently. When I registered to vote at 18 I didn't care about politics so just picked what my dad told me to. Haha.
I vote however I want but I finally got around to changing my party officially a few months ago.

I supported GWB in 2000 but couldn't vote yet (sort of embarrassed to admit that 
). But I've only voted for democrats in presidential elections. I've voted for independents in local elections.

I considered myself very moderate when I lived in NY until I moved here and got a taste of the more conservative side of the Republican Party. I have moved further and further left in the past decade or so.

Both. Raised extremely conservative and didn't start thinking for myself until I had already voted for W. Ugh. Extreme liberal now, and a huge Sanders fan!

For the most part I vote my political affiliation. For some local office positions I have voted for the other party to maintain the incumbent because they were good for the community. Without fail the national elections always point the biggest differences between the party's philosophies that I cannot in good faith vote for the other party.
