District only 1, county 6
Eta: for perspective I went to the only high school in this same district and my graduating class was 73

12 public in town, that is the district. The county is irrelevant, because they're not funded on the county level.
There's a wide disparity in terms of wealth in the county, which is why it is like this. You have poor cities and very wealthy towns.

Our district has 20 elementary schools. There are 20 school districts that have some presence in our county.

@kiddosc: @IRunForFun: @looch: @Jackiedavis87: interesting. Our state must be set up differently. Our county is the district...from what I can tell.

@mediagirl: Wow! I knew there were a lot, but i didn't know there were that many!

We have 31 school districts in our county with 374 traditional schools (elementary, middle and high school) and 39 non-traditional schools (alternative, community day, juvenile court school, etc.)

@mediagirl: Yes, most districts here are counties, except for a few cities that have their own districts.

@lilteacherbee: we were by county where I used to live, as well. The system here is SO BIG, it's ridiculous.

Our school district has 7 elementary schools. Our county has 11 school districts with 36 elementary schools.
@mediagirl: I imagine this all depends on where you live. For example, Philadelphia County IS Philadelphia City IS Philadelphia School District. But for the most part, at least in PA, there are usually several school districts per county. In PA, there are 67 counties with 500 public school districts.

There's 27 in my district. There's probably hundreds in the county.

There are 59 elementary schools in our county and five in our cluster.

@mediagirl: maybe I'm misreading your post but does that mean 104 elementary schools feed in to 13 middle schools and high schools?

It goes by town here, not county. This county has a quarter of the population for the entire state. In our town for public schools we have 1 elementary, 2 middle schools (1 district, 1 charter), and 2 high schools (1 district, 1 charter). The charter school is really tiny though. We also have a private catholic prep school that does preschool through HS, but the HS is female only.

@Truth Bombs: good catch. I reversed the numbers. 171 schools total.

@mediagirl: aaahhhhh that makes more sense. I was going to say, you must have some seriously overcrowded high schools!

@mediagirl: Yeah, here the districts are mainly follow the borders of the towns/cities/hamlets in the larger county.

I don't know about the entire county, that's a lot, but our district has 4 public elementary schools that feed into 1 middle school and 1 high school.
