Two of my good friends and several women I know though an organization I'm part of are SAHMs by choice. I also know a handful of women who are SAHMs by circumstance but would prefer to be working.

A TOOOONN. Most women I know don't need to work, so they just don't...ever. Like, their kids are all in school all day and they still don't work. I wouldn't be able to do it because i'd get bored.

None. A few "friends" on facebook but no close friends or family. Which means I won't get much support if I decide to do so after baby is born.

@TurtleDoves: That sounds awesome!! Bored sounds better than work to me! But I've also had a pretty bad work month.

Loads but there is an international divide.
All of my American friends - working full time 6-12 weeks after their LOs were born
All of my Australian friends - SAHMs, including me, and I love it!

1. But I do know a few non-working student moms. It's pretty common for new expats/immigrants since it takes a few years to learn the local language.

Most of the ladies at my church are sahms so I'd say I know at least 10.
Eta: I should add that even though I know a lot of them we aren't really close because of our age differences so we only really talk at church.

There are plenty of them in town where I live. My friends are almost all working moms though. My only friend who was a SAHM just went back to work a few weeks ago, so now I don't have any more SAHM friends.

When we lived in the city I literally knew none. Now that we moved to a small town (and am a SAHM myself) I find almost every woman of child-bearing age who obviously has children stays home. Being a resource town where all the men make great wages though it tends to make sense.

Not a single one. I know a few moms with WAHM/I WOHM schedules, but even they have FT childcare to keep up with the demands of their job.

Right at this moment, I know 2, maybe 3 but I can't remember if she's working or not, lol. There's a few that are still on mat leave, but I'm pretty sure they'll be going back to work.
