Once every other week. They get dirty, but DH spends so much time working on our lawn that the floors are going to have dirt/grass on them immediately after I mop, so I don't see the point in doing it constantly. Plus there's all the stuff the dog tracks in. No baby around yet to worry about. Will probably do this more once there is a crawler in the house.

Um.. we only clean our floors every couple of weeks

We do spot-clean though if something spills or if there is noticeable filth anywhere. Once we hadn't cleaned the floors for almost 3 weeks and my Mom came over and commented on how clean they were! I didn't even tell her they were actually filthy.

@mrbee: No, but we also plan on replacing the floors in the next 5 years, so I'm not really concerned about it. Our downstairs is hardwood and our upstairs is carpet, but we'd like to completely redo all the flooring to match, sometime soon.

I do use Orange Glo once a month or so, which helps keep our floors looking nice and removes a lot of the scratches the dogs make.

@mrbee: the guy that installed hardwoods told me the steam mop was the worst thing to do to your floors =( which sucks because it's so nice to avoid putting chemicals on the floors and the regular vacuum wheels can scratch the finish. he said even though they feel like they dry instantly, just the surface is dry, that the steam in causing moisture inside the wood that you can't feel.

I vacuum once a week. I sweep and mop the kitchen a couple of times.

@andrea: My husband's best friend is a hardwood floor installer and he told us that laminate floors (which is what we have) should definitely NOT be steam mopped and that real hardwood floors can be steam mopped if they are finished. We have cheapy laminate hardwood flooring so I just wet mop it and then dry it right away.

My house keeper mops them every other week. We have tile. And my husband will go over with the vacuum a few times through out the week to get up all the dog hair.

I vacuum everything (even the laminate) once a week, though I should do it more often, and probably will once we have the bebe and they start going on the move. There's so much dog hair everywhere on our nice dark laminate floors. I use Bona laminate cleaner and a microfiber mop once every other week. I should also do this more frequently but right now it's just sort of cosmetic and I can live with it for a couple of weeks. Steam mops are terrible for laminate floors and vinegar water or even just plain water left everything streaky and dull. Bona has been great and we can use it on our tile floors in the bathroom, kitchen, and family room too.

I vacuum weekly, even on our bamboo floors, to pick up balls of dog fur that tumbleweed along. I never do any actual mopping or other cleaning of the floors. I've never been able to see any kind of dirt or spots or anything, even though we have pets. Maybe because our main living area/kitchen is on the second floor of our house, so it's harder for stuff to get tracked in from outside? Also we're shoe-free.

I need to do it more often, especially after the baby is here! We have a dog & I know that our floors need to be cleaned WAY more than they are.

We have hardwood - what's the best, easiest method? I'd love suggestions that don't involve a bucket and sponge mop

I sweep 1-2 times a day! our floor gets so yucky fast.. and since its laminate I used wet wipes to what the broom doesn't pick up.

Probably once every other week or so. We do have two shedding dogs but they are small and indoor so they don't really make the floors too dirty. When Wagon Jr. was crawling, we vacuumed and I did the whole mopping with a wet paper towel on my hands and knees thing a lot, probably on an every-other-day basis, but after he started walking we didn't need to clean them that much anymore.

Floors are my #1 hated chore

Once a week! Sometimes 2 times if LO makes a big mess.

I sweep and swiffer the kitchen and dining area daily.. At least 2-3x a day (after meals). I bring out the vaccuum/hand vaccuum as needed. Having a crawler and doing baby led weaning too has made me OCD about our floors!

But most of the time she crawls only in her playroom which is fitted with soft tiles. It usually stays very clean (no food or shoes are allowed in there), so I only wipe it down as needed.

I'm so lazy, maybe once a week. I totally need to do it more, but cleaning is not as fun as playing with LO. DH is the mopper, but I definitely vacuum more often than he mops.

I sweep or use a handheld vacuum every other day. We have a cleaning lady that comes once every two weeks and she does the real mopping.

We recently re-homed our dog so I think the amount of dirty and hair that ends up on the floor will be less.

Once a week, but once this little lady is here I know I will do it daily/every other day. I already told DH that I want a new super vacuum
