I think it depends on whether you are using up time that you would otherwise have with the baby and how demanding you job is. My last day was at 39+4. In retrospect it was perfect because I finished work Friday and had the baby Sunday. But I was really struggling that last week. I went half days for the last two weeks. If I hadn't been able to do that I'd say going out at 39 is perfect. 36 seems early unless you have a specific plan in mind. Don't forget you might go a week or so past your due date.

I worked until the day DD2 was born, but started working fr home at 37 weeks. Good choice for me.

I worked until the day I went into labor. I only had 16 weeks total though.

I worked until the day I have birth. In fact, I even worked the morning she was born! (I didn't know she was coming yet!)
It worked well of me because even though I was uncomfortable, I wanted to spend my entire leave with my LO and I had a suspicion she would be late (which she was!).

I worked until 36 weeks. I'm in California and that's when you can start receiving short term disability and you can't add those 4 weeks to your leave after baby. I thought that I was going to be bored but the time flew by and it was so nice having some time off before baby got here.

The week before she was born. I actually worked my last work day, started my weekend and she was born on what would have been my Monday.
I don't regret it for a second. Sure it would have been nice to have more time of but it wasn't necessary. I was able to save that time for when she was actually here.

I worked until the day I'd given birth. Although I'm not sure I would have waited that long if I didn't work from home.

(paid) Mat Leave starts 6w before EDD here and that's when I stopped working. Even those last two weeks before that were pretty uncomfortable for me.
I am seriously in awe of those of you that worked until you went into labor! You are rock stars!

I took 1 week before LO1's EDD and he was born in the middle of that week.
I stopped working almost 3 weeks before LO2's EDD, and she came 2 days later!
I think a week or two before is good, but of course, depending on how you are feeling and what your leave policy is.

I stopped working at 37.5 weeks. I went nuts during that time. I was bored and started freaking out over parenting. I wish I had worked later to keep my mind occupied.

I finished work at the end of 35 weeks and was very much pleased to be done as I was starting to experience some complications with my pregnancy. I thoroughly enjoyed having a few weeks off to relax and get ready for baby although I also had a number of prenatal appointments to attend.
I should mention that I'm in New Zealand and I had five weeks of annual leave owing to me plus I took twelve months of maternity leave.

I worked until 39+5. Best decision ever. I would have gone completely stir crazy had I stopped sooner. DD was born at 40+1
ETA: I have a desk job, so my days weren't taxing, physically. Of I were on my feet all day, I may have stopped sooner.

I worked from home a lot during the last two months of my pregnancy because I use public transit plus it was a very icy winter. Then I worked from home the entire two weeks before my due date.
Then I kept working one day at a time for another week after my due date. I finally stopped that Friday. My water broke the following Tuesday night, nine days after my EDD. My baby was born early Thursday morning.
I would not have been able to work for so long if I couldn't work from home, and honestly it was getting increasingly difficult to justify my existence at work. But I was only able to take 12 weeks off regardless, so I did my best to maximize time with the baby. I don't regret that, but it was hard to keep my head in the game at the end.

I left my job at 38 weeks and ended up going 2 weeks late. Honestly, it wasn't my best move. I ended up pretty bored and just anxious to get the baby out.

I was abroad when I was pregnant, paid leave was supposed to begin 2 months before your due date. I was due in December, they wanted me to begin mat leave in October, but we got an exception and I worked an extra 4 weeks. Looking back, I could have worked until the beginning of December, but the problem was my hour long commute on public transportation.

I worked until d day. I delivered at 38+1 and while I was uncomfortable with back pain sitting all day it wasn't unbearable. I could have sucked it up for another 2-3 weeks if I had to. I wanted to use my time after baby came instead of before. I would work up until delivery next time too assuming it was uncomplicated. It really depends on your work neuron ment though. I wouldn't have been able to be at a job I was on my feet a lot at but I sit pretty much all day, which is what I would have been doing at home anyways! My job is flex that I did work from home on some of the more uncomfortable days.

I worked until 37 weeks 2 days. Baby was born at 39 weeks 4 days. It was nice to have two weeks off! I got my hair done, massage, chiro, acupuncture, mani, pedi, etc!

I haven't had the baby yet but I'm going to work until 38w2d. I can then use vacation time (we have unlimited but can use up to 3 weeks pre-parental leave) until baby is born and my official leave kicks in.
If we didn't get to use vacation, I'd work as late as possible so that I could take my full 12 weeks after the baby is born.

I worked until I went into labor. We only get 12 weeks of maternity leave, so working until the last minute was absolutely the best choice for me. As much as I would've loved to have some time off prior to the baby, I would've HATED having to put him in daycare that much earlier because I used up my leave before he was born!

I worked until the day before, but that wasn't what I was planning. I was planning to work until that Friday, have the weekend, and then we had a section scheduled that Monday. Well, went to my appt the week before and bp was up and some other things and Dr was like, we are taken her this week. I was like, yeah, next Monday and he said no that tmrw or Wednesday depending on what was open. Well, came out of the examination room and found out I was to be at the hospital the next morning at 7:30. Cue panic for me, but it ended up being the best. I didn't have anything ready for my sub. I had to go back up to school and straighten thugs up and start to write lesson plans. Next time I'll do better.

I worked until 39 weeks & baby arrived at 41 weeks. I'm glad I had that time off to rest. I was planning to work until I went into labor but I was just too tired & had a long commute.

My company policy was to go out two weeks before EDD (very unusual in the US!) and you can't save that for after delivery, so that's what I did. It was great! It was nice having a known end date and know when I had to wrap everything up at work, and I was happier knowing I'd have some time to myself. The two weeks off were awesome- last chance to sleep in, nap wen I felt like, make a bunch of freezer meals. I'm not really one to get stir crazy, though, I'm very happy to be lazy
I had c the day before edd so had exactly two weeks off.

I stopped working at 36 weeks. That wasn't the original plan, and sure it would have been nice to have more time with LO after he was born, but I had a very physically demanding job and every day was 8+ hours of walking, bending, lifting (I had restrictions on what kind of weight I could lift, but still.) I had a very rough pregnancy and it just got to be way too much, so I had my midwife write me a note to start maternity leave earlier than planned. Even looking back I don't see how I could have done it any differently - my direct manager was just very unwilling to accommodate me, like I wasn't allowed to have a chair for when I was doing work at the computer because he said it wasn't fair to everyone else who has to stand (I would like to note that this manager is in a wheelchair, so yeah...not getting any sympathy or understanding from him!)

I can use whatever time I have saved up (12 weeks) so it doesn't make sense to use it sitting around at home, because that means I would get less time with the baby.

I worked from home the last week but kept working right up until I delivered at 40+1. I'm not sure how much time I will have off this time (or if I will go back) so I don't want to waste any of it, just in case.

I worked until a Friday at 39+4 and LO was due on that Monday. She didn't arrive until 41+1 though. Next time I will work till the end. I got a lot of errands done during the week I had off but I wasted 5 days of sick time.

I'm a seasonal worker and I was laid off at 24 weeks. I wish I had been able to work longer. Our next LO will be due around November (if all goes according to plan) so I will be working right up to my due date!

i worked until the day i went into labor. however i don't get maternity leave--i have to use my annual and sick leave, so that was a factor. also, thankfully i was still feeling okay late in my pregnancy so did not feel the need to take off early--that is something i would have considered had i been in serious discomfort.

I only had 12 weeks so I worked until I went into labor. Luckily my water broke at home Sunday night and not at work Mon morning. I was working from home 2 days a week for the previous two weeks per my doctor so I could elevate my feet (swollen)

With #1: I worked until my due date and had him 6 days later. My induction was originally scheduled for 40w4d, but there was a scheduling error and I didn't get induced until 40w6d. I wanted to work as close to delivery as possible, since I was only getting 12 weeks and didn't want to waste it before he got here.
With #2: I was scheduled for a c-section at 39w1d, and worked until 38w2d.

I worked until 39+2 and had the baby at 40+2. I am glad I stopped when I did. The week off was nice, and I was really losing it at work. I'm a teacher, so I was on my feet all day and super stressed about leaving plans each evening just in case I wouldn't be in the next day.

I worked from home my 35th week, because of massive swelling, but I was planning on going back the next week. Turns out I didn't have to, because my son came at 35.4 weeks.

I worked until early labor started and that was my plan. I don't regret it one bit. I only got 6 weeks maternity leave so I wanted to save every last day to be with my baby. I'm going to work until labor with this second one as well. But I think this time around I'll work 2 days from home the last month.
I'm lucky though that I have a desk job.

I planned to work until 39w but my OB took me out of work at 37w because I was so swollen and couldn't keep my legs properly elevated at work. I went into labor at 38w.
