My friend just asked me this so I looked in up in my Baby Connect app....LO was 8 weeks old and 12 lbs when she started sleeping 8+ hours a night.

Totally going to follow this. I've heard 10 pounds is when a lot of babies start to stretch out their sleep, but I'm interested to see what the answer is for STTN.

My sister told me over and over once my LO hit 11 lbs it would be the ticket.. he is 18 now and has never gone longer than 7 hours without eating

We are at about 16 lbs and not even close to STTN (by any definition!!!!)

@blackbird: I read that 5 hours is technically STTN

I've been told 10lbs was a magical number, and K did start STTN (5 hours) for most nights since we've hit that number! I won't say it's every night yet, but we are probably still hovering around 10-11lbs.

STTN medical definition of 5 hours? That was awhile ago.... like 4 months old??
But actual 10-12 hours at night? a year old. Though he did for a month at 6 months, and a week here and there until he was a year but now it's consistent.

L came home STTN of six or more hours. She weighed 10lbs. We only got to 12+ when she hit 16lbs.

Mine was around 3 months, so I'd say she was about 10 lbs. I don't have the exact weight but she was 12 lbs at her 4 month checkup.

He has done it off and on since 3 months - he was only 10 lens then. We got to 10 hrs when healthy when he was 6 months and he never really sleeps more than 10 hrs at night. He was about 13.5 lbs then.

Ooo let's say he started at month 11 (no sleep training) so he was around 20 pounds.

My LO started to STTN (10-12 hours) when we sleep trained him at 6 months old. I just looked at his baby book. He was 16 lbs. at the time. I think we had the clearance to CIO with him sooner, but we didn't. I think we were lucky if we got 5-6 hours out of him at a go around 4-5 months. I remember those being rare until we did sleep training.

I think she started sleeping 5-6 hr stretches fairly regularly at 10-11 lbs.

Both kids started STTN when they were 6 and 4 weeks old.
Not sure how much DS weighed at a month old, but at 2 months he was 14lbs.

@chopsuey119: wow! U lucky u got some great sleepers!
My kids are finally sttn at 13 months and 20+ lbs! That's over 10 hours of sleep without a feeding.

Sadie was sleeping 6 hour stretches by her second week, so around 7 pounds. She started sleeping 10+ hours around 7 weeks, and she was like 10.5lbs at that point!

Well yesterday was her first time.....so 18.5 lbs? (12 months)

12 hours? 18lbs. He started getting better around 9 months, but still woke up 2 or 3 times a night until almost 12 months, when he hit that 18lb mark.

Was about 8w old when he started 6-8h and about 11w when he did 10-12h He was about 11 lbs at 8w and maybe 13 by 12 weeks if I remember.

i've heard that 14 pounds is the magic number for a lot of babies. charlie was more than that i believe, but we sleep trained at 4.5 months.
olive didn't sttn until she was over a year old and we sleep trained. she was around 16 pounds.
pear / 1510 posts
At right around 10 pounds she slept 10+ hours a few times. Right now, at around 12 pounds (3.5 mo) she's sleeping 9ish. I'll take it!

This thread must be good luck, my 9.5 lb 4.5 week old slept 5.5 hrs last night

Bwahaha, 20+ pounds? Neither of my kids consistently STTN until one year old.
pomelo / 5331 posts
By the medical definition (5+ hours), around 12 pounds. But he still hasn't slept more than a 7-hour stretch, and that in itself is rare -- it's more like 5-6 hours at a time.

5 hrs? Yeah 10 lbs sounds about right? 8 hrs I think around 11 lbs!

Lucky mamas! My son was 1 year and 2 weeks, about 22lbs when he slept through the night for the first time 10+ hours. Before that, he had NEVER slept more then 3-4 hours at a time.
pomelo / 5791 posts
If 5 hours is STTN, my LO did that at 3 weeks old. He was around 10 lbs then.
At 8 weeks old, he was around 13 pounds and slept 10 hours a night.
He's now 3 months, 15 pounds, and sleeps up to 12 hours a night.
pomelo / 5621 posts
My 7 week old is just about 13.5 lbs and hasn't slept for more than 4 hours yet.

LO has had a few 5 hour stretches at 5-5.5lbs. We accidentally slept through our alarms those couple of times! He was a late preterm so we didn't want him to go more than 4 hours without a feeding.
Now that he's 6.5lbs and consistently takes more than the calculated minimum he needs to gain weight, we let him go 5 between his two nighttime feedings.
I think once we hit 10 pounds, we may let him dictate his schedule a bit more.
