@dagret: I was going to ask if she'd given you a price. That's what I ask first. FWIW I've had a 16 year old, 13 year old and 15 year old babysit for me within the last month and they ALL said $5/hour!! I was willing to pay more like $7-$8 if need be but they gave me that price.

I personally don't think it's too low for a young teen. They wouldn't legally be able to get a job now anyway at min. wage! I didn't start working until I was 16 and that's when I started charging what I was making at my job to babysit, which at the time was just over $6! hahaha. Now I think min wage is between $7-$8.

Sometimes you can talk with the parents on what they think is fair too if you're doubting yourself or the price you talked about with the teen. It's a "safe" option.

@Mrs. Champagne: hahaha!! When I was about 14-15 I went to be a "mothers helper" to a mom who had 8 kids at the time (10 now!), and I was there 9-5 and paid $20 for the day hahaha!!

We pay $10 an hour, but our sitters are older, one is 19 and married, the other is a mid-twenties college student.
