    @BandDmommy: yep, it's definitely regional, we're in MI.

    I can't believe these rates. You really don't want to know what we will have to pay annually for full-time care at the new preschool we're looking at. It is insane in the San Francisco Bay Area.

    @pregnantbee: mine is only 2 days for 3 hours and it's $500 a month..

    @pregnantbee: I think full time care is a whole different ballgame! That's why I was just asking about part time programs.

    Eta: I just noticed this got moved from education to child care. That might be why it's confusing. I wasn't talking about child care though! (Even though some child cares do have preschools!)

    I just looked up the tuition for the Montessori closest to our house and tuition is 14000/year for a half day schedule from 8:30-11:30, 5 days a week. So 15 hours a week is 1,167 a month. Yikes!

    @pregnantbee: same for us. Even part time programs here are expensive BUT it's kind of a bad school district so we get free pre-k 3 and pre-k 4 here, and then you just have to pay before and after care.

    Full time preschool is over 2000/month and all the part time programs I've seen are over 1000 for just a few hours. Sometimes I wonder why we live here when we're about to have 2. Blah.

    Montessori for next year, 3 days a week for a couple of hours, and private pre-k for the next, 5 mornings a week, both $300-$599/ mo. range.

    $570/month plus a hefty registration fee for a 2.5-3.5 yr old to go for three hours a morbing 2x/week. And that's cheap for this neighborhood. The places with flashier classrooms are close to double.

    The school we are looking at is $600-$800/month for 5 half days 830-1130. Depending on age, the price decrease happens at 30 months, Ds is 27 now.

    we have both public and private, the public programs are with the elementary school and are tuition based unless the child qualifies for speech etc.

    the tuition slots are highly coveted and based on a lottery system, we're hoping we get in!!!

    We start Monday. It's $896/month for 4 days a week (29 hours). ... They take 5 weeks off a year, and we pay for 52 weeks, which is annoying.

    @macintosh: our area has free public preschool for 3 and 4 year olds. We actually enrolled our 3 year old but then very quickly pulled him out because it was pretty bad! Private schools here are insanely expensive, so we kept him home and supplement with some classes.

    All kids are entitled to 15 hours of free childcare/education from their third birthday (we're in the UK). You can choose to use it in a public school, private nursery (preschool), childcare setting, or an in home childminder. We don't want to send our children out for that many hours at such a young age so we are going with a private nursery for two mornings per week, 2.5 hr sessions. Totally free.
