LO is 4.5 months old and we havent had to buy hardly any clothes! Grandparents and aunts always buy cute clothes for LO but I just spent $50 for some bigger winter clothes. How often and how much do you spend on LO?

We also received a lot of clothes from family and friends and usually just supplement his wardrobe with some essentials. I also buy clothes a few sizes up if I see them on sale and wait until he grows into them. I spend very little and usually buy as the season changes.

For DS, I spend about $150 at baby gap and $100 at Carter's every season + coats, snow boots, rain boots are another $150-200. DD, out grows things quicker and no one has gifted any clothing so I've spent $200 about every month (she's now 3 months old).

I've spent maybe $300 total (17 months).
I shop baby gap sales and my mom loves shopping for her.

We've probably spent about $50 on LO for some extra clothing items we needed. She is 4 months and we were gifted so much clothing that she didn't get a chance to wear a lot of it! She's the first grandchild on both sides, so she's been pretty spoiled by family.
We were also gifted a large box of winter hand me downs--so if LO doesn't grow too big over the next few months she'll be covered!

Right now? I'm not really keeping track since we're expecting our first LO and I buy stuff at Target or Marshall's if I see something; once the excitement dies down; I won't be shopping for his clothes for a while~

@mrsjyw: I do this too but the excitement still hasn't died down after having DD! I'm buying more and more...it's getting dangerous.

I don't keep track of what I buy for DS but I usually just pick up cute stuff when I see it. I just had to get him some jeans because he out grew all of the ones from last year. I spent around $75 for 6 pairs. I like going to second hand kids clothing stores I always get good deals on name brand stuff.

@HeatherlovesKenny: it's a blessing for me that LO is a boy! so much cute girl stuff! i'm hoping that we'll have so much in stock; that i logically won't be able to buy more PP!

I've spent about $75 stocking up on sleepers, onesies, and side snap shirts in NB and 0-3 months. And I'm now officially done buying anything for a while. We will wait to see what is gifted to us and to find out the gender when baby gets here and then I'll send the hubs out if we feel like we don't have enough. I had to cancel one shower since I wan't allowed to fly and my other one is about a month away so I don't know how much we'll be gifted. I don't see my parents buying a lot of clothes though. They are totally the type to make a 529 contribution instead of buying cute outfits. Which is totally fine by me!

I very rarely buy LO clothes. She's 13 months and I've probably bought her maybe 5 outfits at the most. I got a lot at her shower and for gifts, and we've gotten hand me downs, and then we had her birthday, and her grandma and nanny by her clothes. It's nice.... but I do wish that I could pick out some cute little girl clothes.
pineapple / 12526 posts
Um.... I'd say around $300 total. She's 5 months old and I have sizes through 12-18 for her. We've gotten a lot of hand-me-downs and I've bought a lot used.
I did just drop $83 on Carters.com on their Labor Day sale today though...
squash / 13199 posts
we received a lot of clothes as gifts as well. I usually only buy cloths on sale from target, babies r us and walmart. ususally under $40 each time

DD isn't here yet, but total I've only spent maybe $50 dollars on items for her, my sister has a daughter exactly a year older so we are covered (my sister is a shopaholic for her child, so we are beyond set) plus we got a ton of shower gifts as well.
I will need to get some supplement outfits, plus I want to get cute holiday outfits and feel like I can spend a little more since I haven't bought much for her yet

@zippylef: did u use the 25% off code I posted on the August deals thread??

I spend a scary amount on clothes. My parents buy a lot
Of clothes for DS but I'm a shopaholic. And he looks soooo cute! I can't help myself!

I haven’t spent very much on clothes for LO. He’s been gifted a TON and we’re set for at least the first 9 months I think. And we still have one more baby shower! Plus my mom is constantly buying clothes for him. We’ve spent less than $50 on little things here and there- he’s due next month.
persimmon / 1205 posts
I just spent about $250 on clothing for fall/early winter, but have bought things here and there all along so I'm sure the total is up there. I have good amounts of clothing up through 9 months.
@krsmall: I worry I'm leaning towards this too!
pomelo / 5178 posts
We don't buy much; we've gotten a ton of hand me downs and our families buy a lot for the kids.
There are a bunch of sales this weekend! Old Navy/Gap is doing 30% off and Carter's is 50% off!

I haven't kept track but I buy ahead of time and whenever there's a sale, I go crazy. My mom bought LO a lot of the basics when we last visited, but I was barely pregnant then and didn't know the gender yet. She bought mostly larger sizes though. I've supplemented a lot of her smaller sizes.
My last purchase was a Zulily deal: Moccis at over 50% off of the local prices and a princess outfit for when she attends her first dress up birthday party (when she's around 3-5 yrs old). She's 2 months old, it was a good deal ;D

@zippylef: good! If not I was going to tell you to call them and make them apply it! : )

@mrsjyw: ummm you will find that boy stuff tends to be JUST AS cute!!! Today at H&M I was sooo torn. I bought him a striped cardigan, suspenders, colored skinny jeans and brown "loafers". SO FREAKING ADORABLE. They'll fit him over the winter so I'll definitely be posting pics of my little man
Seriously I am addicted to buying clothes for DS. We got a bit of hand me downs and scored a huge lot of clothes on Craigslist for $50 before he was born. But I am always finding myself buying him more and more clothes. In my defense, he will be outfitted until he's nearly 2 years old with the stash I got him!
Honestly, although we got some hand me downs, we really weren't gifted many clothes. We were moreso gifted things we registered for and needed. So we spent less $$ than we thought we'd have to... I feel less guilty about my addiction to shopping for him because of that
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@zippylef: I went there today, I had a $10 off coupon so I got two sleepers for only $3. Score!!
I think that girl stuff at carters is way cuter than baby stuff. I guess I'm just not that into "baby cutesy" style for boys. I like "little man" more, like gap and H&M.

DD is 2 and I am sure it's in the thousands between clothes, shoes, hats, gloves, snowsuits, bathing suits etc. She has gone through lots of stuff!!
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@Andrea: will you be able to resist buying more for DD#2?!?
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
@Coco Bee: the seasons are off so I might need to anyway. My mom loves to shop and she already said that she'll buy DD #2 new stuff!
coconut / 8475 posts
With gifts and clearance racks-I haven't spent much. I have bought more "accessories" like hats, shoes and boots.
@Coco Bee: they sell colored skinny jeans for baby boys at h&m!?!?!?!? OmyGaaaaaa...you wouldn't believe how hard I've been looking for some. I saw some on ON.com but they were all super tiny sizes & I'm expecting a tall baby. Anywhere else? (h&m is about45m from me)
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@TurtleDoves: I just saw them today!! I got DS an adorable red pair teehee!! They had khaki skinnies, dark wash suspender skinnies, and blue chinos. I'm totally in love with the selection at H&M. It starts at 4-6 months though, except for a few standard layette items like mini sweaters, knit pants and bodysuits.
I saw the ones on ON too and totally wanted them! They sold out before I got to them. Gap had a pair of red/coralish ones as well.
I haven't seen any others, but if I do, I'll let you know.
Yeah the H&M is an hour away from me - at the Mall of America!! So this is actually the first time I've made it down since having my boy. I should have gone while I was pregnant and stocked up
But I think I will make the trip a regular one - like before next summer to stock up on some stuff.

At 8 months, I have spent less than $75. But we have gotten a significant amount of hand me downs from my SIL and her twins.
That money has been all sale racks, only buying 1-2 pieces per age stage, and the rest clothes for 12-24 months since my nephews have slowed down their growing a lot and we have fewer clothes coming our way. We are about halfway there for having what we need this fall/winter.
My advice is to keep an eye on the sale racks for a year ahead- your seasons will match up and that is when the mark downs will be the biggest. When I first started, I didn't plan out well when he was a newborn- I bought a few long sleeved 6 months clothes back in January, which put us right in the middle of summer when he grew into them
For example, this summer I bought any heavy markdowns for 18 months in summer clothes. I have the closet space and am happy to only spend a couple dollars per piece. I'm also keeping an eye open at the used kids clothes stores.

@Coco Bee: I prefer to dress C in "grown-up" styles too. She has blazers, hoodies, jeans, cable knit sweaters, etc. I also shop at H&M a LOT. There's one about 20 minutes from my house. I have to admit, I have a weak spot for Gymboree but I only ever buy it super clearance or used. I bought this dress at Carters, though, that I am super excited about.

That sucker is going to be adorable with white tights and black patent mary janes.

@lemondrop: my sister said she just stocked up onshorts for next summer, target $1 each!!

I buy a lot less than I used to. With so many things going unworn in the first year, I learned my lesson. I gave away so many things with the tags still on them.
Now, I only buy when I am certain of the size and need. I don't see the point in having tons of clothes when they grow out of them and get wrecked at the playground. We cycle through the same pairs of fleece pants and tops but have a few nicer going out outfits.
I'd say I spend about $100 per season.

I've spent $1 on LO (in utero!) so far. I don't know if it sounds super selfish, but I can't imagine spending more on his/her clothes than I do on mine, since mine cost 10x the amount of fabric and will get 10x the amount of wear. I'm sure we'll be gifted lots, and as much as I like to browse the baby racks, I know I need to save more money for less exciting baby items. We'll see how this changes after it's born though!

@MrsJDY, @CocoBee, @Crumbs, @HeatherLovesKenny - Glad to see I'm not the only one super excited about shopping before baby here! And I had been "hoping" for a boy because I KNEW I'd go crazy shopping for a little girl.
Well, I'm only 15 weeks, and probably spent about $200-$300 so far (including a major score I got on a PPB diaper bag), and my mom probably about another $100-150.
Most of it is because we went to Las Vegas with my aunt and gma last week, and with 4 ladies all excited about LO to come (1st grandchild on this side) we went outlet shopping. FYI - Las Vegas Premium Outlets has tons of baby shops!!!
Mom and I also went a little NUTS at the Baby Gap sale, where they were having additional 40% off! Which btw, that almost NEVER happens in Orange County (from what all my mommy friends tell me). I've stocked up on basics only for up to 1 year old. With most of the items ranging from 3-12 months.
I'll also a piece here and there when I'm at TJMAxx or Target.
Baby Girl's closet is now one of my favorite places to hangout and "browse".
pomelo / 5789 posts
LO isn't here yet but I would say I've spent about $150. If we were having a girl I'd have spent 10x that.
I definitely prefer the "Little Man" style more too, but not seeing a whole lot of options for <6mo

@mrsaudi - old navy is having a baby/toddler sale NOW so i just dropped $100 over my lunch break today to buy her some fall clothing! usually, every season, my husband's boss gives us a bunch of practically brand new hand-me-downs (she has twin girls who are a few months older than DD).... so i try not to buy too much, but i think with this "shopping spree" i'm done for the season! i am feeling guilty already though so i may go back to old navy in the next day or two and return some items. they had some really cute sweater dresses though!!
