Born and raised in NEngland and lived in MT for a few years. I have only had A/C for the past 4 years and we are still in NE.

Born & raised in Arkansas - so my whole life! Except during elementary and middle school, my school didn't have it so we got out at 1:00 p.m. for all of August and the first half of September.

MD and PA here, and I've always had central air. Although as a kid, my parents really only used it when it was in the 80s outside!

My room at my parent's house only had one tiny vent, so the room was always unbearably warm in the summer. I spent lots of nights sleeping in the den.

all of it! We moved to OH from FL my junior year of high school and people thought that we were rich (far from it) cause our new house had central air. Most don't up there.

Never. We had a crappy window unit in our apartment for the 2 years we lived there but I really don't count it as a/c. We just keep all the windows open at night during the summer heat waves. It's supposed to hit upper 90's this week and I'm not looking forward to it!

I've lived in New England for most of my life and I never had an A/C until I was 25 and my roommate demanded that we get one.

I grew up in WNY without AC. We moved to SC when I was 17 and we've lived with central air ever since...16 years now.

So I guess almost half my life!

I was born and raised in London so didn't have it there (not needed) but have had it the last 10 years as I have been in NYC. I was just thinking last night that I have no idea how people cope in the city without AC.

Never. It's not needed where I live

I lived in Korea for the first 10 years of my life, and I really don't recall having AC, I remember fans. But when we moved to NJ we always had it, so basically, 2/3 of my life! Central air in my home though, only the last 5 years or so and I will absolutely never live w/o it again.

All of it, however we lived in an old farm house, the air never quite made it upstairs to where our bedrooms were, so we still had fans blowing on us to try and cool us down!

Grew up mostly in west Texas where we had summers with temperatures up to 119 f, then lived in Dallas 10 years and now outside NYC--- I've always had AC and usually central. I had a couple of small apartments in college with window units but they never seem to work as well so after college, I decided to only ever live in places with Central heat and air.

My husband loves to tell me I would never survive in his (hot, humid, tropical, unairconditioned with tons of Mosquitos) country and I tell him he's probably right. I need cool air to sleep.
