I'm starting nanny interviews tomorrow. I am very unsure of what, if anything, I should share about my unique circumstances during the initial interview. I had a son, Lucas, who passed away following significant health problems at 14 months old. This information has almost no affect on the care of J, but we have specific health related concerns to watch for (it is unlikely J will be affected with the same condition, however, because we never found the cause, we cannot be entirely sure). Even in the unlikely event that J does get it, it would not require emergency-type response. These facts make me think it's best to omit bringing up Lucas entirely.

However, I'm understandably anxious and would like any health concerns, even minor, relayed to me immediately. And also, I will bring top candidate(s) to our home to meet DH and J for a second interview (after I've talked with references) and there are pictures of Lucas up throughout the house, so either they'll think we're strangely close with another relative or we'll need to tell them then.

So what do you bees think? Bring it up during the initial interview or sometime later? If you were interviewing for a nanny job would this information be overwhelming and make you less likely to want to take the position?
