Did you/will you have a changing table in the nursery? If you already have a LO, did you find the changing table to be worth the money, or is it something you don't really use? I'm trying to decide if it's something we will buy or if it'll just be a waste of money....

We just put a changing pad on top of a dresser:

@jennylynn: Our old dresser was too big, so we ended up moving it into another room and getting a secondhand "vintage" dresser for really cheap. A friend of Bee's painted it pale pink, and it looks great.

We bought a little antique table that has some storage and will eventually go in a different room.
We use it for all her diaper changes. But that's just because we have it. We could just as easily do it on the floor or somewhere else.

We put a changing pad on top of a dresser, too, and the dresser is a bit too tall that I sometimes find myself on tiptoes. But, whatever, right?

I think you would want it elevated on some sort of surface. Sure you can do it on the floor but I personally wouldn't want to be bent over all the time changing diapers. We bought a dresser that came with a removable changing table top so we can use it for a long time.

A changing table is nice but only if you don't spend a lot of money on it. The dresser we bought was too tall or else we would have just used that. Instead, we bought this $20 desk from Ikea and secured the changing pad to it. It was perfect because it has a trough in back (for writing accessories) that we put her diapers, wipes, and creams, etc. And when a changing pad is no longer necessary, it's still a desk

I had a changing table with DS, but never used it! I always just changed him where ever we were at: living room, bedroom, etc.

We don't have one in the nursery, we have one in the bathroom. It's super convenient, and I don't have to worry about getting poop and pee all over the place if my son wiggles around while changing him. I prefer having everything in one place and leaving it there. It works for us because we're in a one floor apartment though.

Like others, we just put a changing pad on the top of a dresser. Truthfully, we haven't even used it yet. Charlotte gets changed wherever we happen to be in the house, which is rarely in her nursery.

We had a changing pad on the floor in our bedroom and one in the living room (the two places we spent the most time) and changed her there but the constant bending of the knees really did a number on them. My knees hurt SO much, it's hard for me to get up from a sitting position. So, that's when we moved it into LO's nursery and I will ONLY change her in there (standing up) now.

We put a changing pad on a dresser in DD's room.
she's a month old, and we haven't even used it yet. We have the PnP set up in our living room, which is where we camped out the first month she was home with us. I had a c-section, and it was much easier for me to get up from the couch than in our bed (it's kind of high), so I slept in the living room the first two to three weeks.
So, for that reason alone, we use the changing table on the PnP much more often.

I didn't spend the money or waste the space. We changed her on the
Changing pad on thr floor or just on the bed sometimes.
I would just put something waterproof under. She's at that stage where she twists and turns and sits up

We plan on using a dresser with a changing pad when the time comes. The room we will use for the nursery is pretty small and we'd rather have the storage of a dresser than the extra furniture.

For our first baby in our first house, we're planning on a fold down wooden changing table that comes down from the wall (I think it's from ikea), because our nursery is SOO tiny. Once we get a bigger house, we'll probably do the changing pad on top of the dresser thing.

I would say we spent 80% of her awake time on the changing table the first three months. It was very worth it for us.

We are forgoing the changing table and doing the dresser and changing pad route.

@Red: Wow, great suggestion and the desk is only $20! I love buying things that I can re-purpose later.

I never had use for a changing table because I was almost never in her room. I changed most of her diapers on the couch with her changing pad. I do like the desk idea though!

I had found a used crib and changing table/dresser combo (for only $100); if I hadn't gotten that, I wouldn't have gone out of my way to get a changing table, probably would have just thrown a pad on top of the dresser...

Our changing table is our daughter's "magic place". For some reason, it just calms her down, even if she's screaming up a storm. I built ours for around $15, but you can pick up some at a resale/consignment shop or via craigslist for that cheap too. I like it because the open shelves make grabbing supplies and changing her a snap. You could just have a changing station set up anywhere in your home and have the same effect. My friend just uses the one on her pack and play

This may sound crazy, but we started out with a giant pad of triple-thickness bubble wrap on the dining room table (we don't actually eat there, and it's a good height). Comfy for baby, and easy to decontaminate when necessary. After she started sleeping in a playyard bassinet, we used the flip-up changing table attachment for that. The weight limit was fairly low, but she outgrew it just in time to switch to standing changes!

For those of you who changed in various places around the house, where did you keep your supplies? Did you have a tote or just wipes, cream and diapers in every room?

We're not getting one. My mom still has the yellow dresser she used for me (and possibly my grandmother used for her, lol!), and since its short enough, we'll use the top for diaper changes. Gotta love hand me downs with history!
Or else that would be the perfect solution!
