I just ordered a handful of books, and bought some at the store this week to gift for Christmas. It has been a few months though since I've bought them any, last year was a lot of books from book orders. I just went through and cleared out a lot of "baby" books, so I'm excited to add new ones to our collection. Downside is books are so expensive! I haven't been finding any good used ones lately.

We buy books probably once a month or so. I was lucky that my mom saved all of mine from baby on up so we have an amazing collection already. We also go to the library at least once a week and some books get checked out so much that I'm pretty sure DD thinks they are hers.

I just buy whenever I see something I like. I have some saved for later in my Amazon account and I throw one in if the price is right. Just bought two Elephant and Piggie books.

We have a great independent bookstore near us that has lots of toys out for kids in addition to books that we go to pretty regularly-- it's an easy outing on a rainy day or if we have like 30 mins to kill. I feel guilty just going there to play so we usually get a book as well! We prob go 2-3x a month

Very seldomly. We make a trip to the library every 2-3 weeks for new books. We don't have space for too many books!

I grab them as I see good ones used but I probably only hit the consignment stores once a month-ish and I don't get books every time. Other than that it is relatively rare, Christmas she gets a couple and thankfully my sister loves buying her books so they are a go to gift. I have been collecting books for years, since well before we even started trying for kids though so we have a well stocked selection plus an awesome local library.

I go through phases. We have a big collection and we make extensive use of the library, but sometimes I find a title that I really want that they don't have. And sometimes I buy books that they do have, but we really love and I feel like we "need."
Christmas books fall into that category--we have way more of them than is reasonable, but I'm not willing to wait until February when someone else has finally returned my favorites! I buy pretty much all of our books used at this point, so it's not a super expensive habit.

Not very often. We visit the library once a week, generally, so I don't buy books unless it's an occasion or a known favorite.

I used to buy pretty frequently but have scaled back in the last year. We go to the library every month and take out about 30 books. It's nice to read and return them so that our bookshelves aren't packed full of books. With two kids receiving Scholastic book orders, it has been difficult to resist and results in me giving in to buying more books.

every other months or so I'll buy a book or two. We go to the library every week and if we find a book we really love I put it on our amazon list, then I watch the list to see if they have any used copies for cheap.

Not terribly often - we are HUGE library users; I tend to buy books either for special occasions (ie, books on being a flower girl were hard to find in our library system) and to build our holiday collection. In each of my big sterilite bins of holiday decor/"stuff", I have a collection of seasonally appropriate books which I add to each year. My girls just got Fancy Nancy and Llama Llama Halloween themed books as a present from me to add to their stash.
Beyond, that I buy books when they're a good deal - I recently got about 10 Llama Llama and Bear (The Bear Wants More, Bear's New Friend, etc.) from another mom for around $15, because those are always favorites from the library.

Pretty rarely- We live super close to our library, and renewing is so easy that we just keep them for months at a time.

We buy them at least monthly.... we have so many books, but DD1 loves books more than toys, so it's something I don't mind spending money on. We also get library books. I follow some use kids book shops on Instagram, and we get a lot of them from there.

Probably monthly. It's the one thing we don't hesitate to buy for them. I can't even remember the last time I bought my older LO a toy!

Too often. At least twice a month. I love to buy them things and feel like we can have too many toys but never too many books. I can also sneak them into the pile so they don't really know they're getting something new which makes me feel like they don't expect presents all the time.

The only ones that I buy are the ones that are in my son's second language. Everything else is library.

Monthly but only because DS's school participates in the Scholastic book club program and the books are super cheap. I can order popular books in paperback versions for sometimes as low as $1 or $2 each. They also sometimes send home coupons so I get $5 off of $10 and the with cheap books, I don't need to feel too guilty. I'd like to go to the library more but our local library burned down and the next closest is 15-20 minutes away and it becomes a chore to have to get those books back on time.

Every few months. I just got him Llama Llama Trick or Treat and Little Blue Truck Halloween because he's really into Halloween right now. I'll probably get him the Little Blue Truck Christmas too!

Not too often honestly! But I plan to add a good amount to her collection in the near future based on milestones like becoming a big sister, having a new baby, potty training, etc.

We get a new book once a month from Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, I'll occasionally pick up a $5 book from Kohls, but otherwise, I don't buy books too often.

I tend not to buy unless they're under $2. My MIL works at a library and occasionally gifts us the library rejects or donated books they decide not to use. While we love to go to the library, we don't go very often, maybe once a month.
Not sure if anyone else's library does this, but they stock a used book section and we always check that when we stop by. I made off with 7 decent books last time
And since DS is still in the board book phase, I actually prefer books already well-loved so I don't feel bad not keeping them pristine.

@yin: Same! Right now the plan is to allow one scholastic order per kid every other month.
We are frequent library goers - I am always putting books on hold at the library and they get new books every week. Right now we have built up a good library of books that i don't feel like it's necessary to buy them as frequently as i used to.

We live super close to the library, so not a ton. However, my 4 year old is in preK now and she's bringing home the Scholastic order forms (so glad they're still a thing!) and I can't resist. I feel like money spent on books is never wasted.

I have a slight obsession with children's literature, so DS gets a new book pretty regularly.

Our libraries are pretty awesome. I love books so I won't dare get myself in the buying mode with them. It is endless and I go through way too many too fast. Maybe once a year. I didn't buy any for at least a year except as part of LO's party favors, nearly a year ago. She still gets occasional books as gifts from the grandparents are aunts.
