Growing up, my mom would throw them in the wash probably once a month, and anytime we were sick. I'm curious what others do, though, especially with the ones you're not technically supposed to machine wash. We really want to get our LO a Jellycat as a first Easter present, but they can't be washed, right? Would the inability to wash a stuffed animal dissuade you from buying it?

I don't have a LO yet, but following bc I didn't know that stuffed animals could be washed?! I don't think my mom ever washed mine lol.

I wash DD's Wubanubs every single time I do laundry - she chews on the legs and they are *disgusting.*
FWIW, I have also washed Jellycats and dolls... for more sensitive things, I put them in a pillow case, close the pillow case with a hair band, and then throw that in the wash. Then I put them in the dryer (still in the pillow case) on low until damp and let air dry the rest of the way. The Wubanubs go in a lingerie bag and then don't go into the dryer. I have a front loader, so there is no agitation.
(I also wash cashmere and washed my wedding dress in the washing machine. I am a rebel when it comes to laundry.

I don't know but I've washed my dog's stuffed toys whenever necessary. They always turn out fine! (This sounds gross but she's almost 7 and has had some of the same toys since the day we got her...) And I know there is some kind of bag you can use to wash stuffed animals if you're unsure?

I haven't ever washed them. I did wash one when she got food all over it.

@septca: ooh, good to know! I'm thinking we may get him/her one and just wash it anyways when necessary.
@Mae: LOL, it never occurred to me that they *couldn't* be washed! We dragged ours everywhere and would put our mouths on them, and they were so gross. When I saw that they made some that couldn't be washed, my thought was "what the heck? What good is that??"

I wash them if they've basically touched the ground, outdoors, or if LO drags them around the house on the floor (not her carpeted area). Doesn't happen too often though.

I've only washed ones that have gotten visibly dirty- so hand wash and air dry.

@LovelyPlum: We haven't yet because she doesn't really play with them since she's still so young, but I'll probably wash they once every few weeks when she's older.
I saw this bag for washing stuffed animals on Shark Tank that I plan to get. It's called "Teddy Needs a Bath." They also make strawberry cotton candy dryer sheets...totally getting those, too!

I washed a couple that a dog got hold of. Other than that I don't wash them, unless they really needed to be, then I'd throw them in.

@LovelyPlum: I guess we were never big stuffed animal people anyways? I don't ever remember PLAYING with a stuffed animal. They just sort of sat in my room. and I definitely never took any outside or had any that were visibly dirty.

I wash everything first thing. Then i wash if they fall on the ground outside or in public or if the dog gets to one. LO's favorites are jellycats and I wash them all the time and they come out good as new. I wash them in lingerie bags on hand wash cycle. I air dry and might put them in the dryer for 10 minutes to fluff back up. I also wash Disney dolls and blabla dolls and they've always come out fine.

I probably should wash DS's elephant car seat toy. He holds on to it and chews on all the parts, and has dropped it a few times. I still haven't washed it yet bc it says "don't wash". I do wipe it down with a wipe, but that doesn't clean out the drool/slober he puts on the interior from chewing on it. Looks like I can throw it in the washer! Will be doing that this weekend!

I've washed a couple of DD's as needed, but I don't regularly. I do wash her wubbanubs regularly!

@JerricaBenton: I'm glad to hear this! I really want to get a Jellycat, but I was scared away by the prospect of not being able to wash it.
@ALV91711: I anticipate this being my reality-turning around and having the dog with the baby's toys, and the baby with the dog's. Knowing my dog, it's bound to happen sooner or later, so I figure I might as well think ahead on it!
