LO is nearly 6 months old and so far we have never put her directly on the floor. I usually play with her on our bed or on the sofa. I have purchase foam tiles but so far have only used it as a base for her bumbo seat. I was planning to only start putting her on the floor when she starts crawling. How often does your infant play on the floor?

She is five months and plays on the floor multiple times a day.
I personally believe that is why she is ahead on her physical milestones (early roller, early sitter, early belly crawler); because she has lots of time on the floor to discover what she can do with her body. I am not sure, that's just my theory!
We have a play mat we stick her on, but she doesn't stay on it for long! -
All the time!! I would say the greater portion of his awake time is spent playing on the floor. He loves to practice crawling, scooting, "reading" his books, playing with his toys etc. Sometimes I let him gnaw on a carrot while on the floor and he loves that.
@Rainbow Sprinkles: I packed ours up because he was never on it anymore haha! There are so many other exciting things to do

So then do you wear shoes indoors? We dont wear our shoes indoors but I never feel the floor is clean enough to put her on. THis was why i purchased the foam mat in the first place. I think I will just buy more foam tiles as they can easily be wipes dow

We would always put my LO on the floor! We started out putting her on a blanket on the floor in her room. Now that LO is crawling and all over the place we can't really worry too much about things being super clean. She gets into everything!

All the time! We don't wear shoes indoors and I vacuum frequently. We encourage her to explore her surroundings!

LO Is almost 6 months and we have put him on a blanket on the floor ever since he was born. He loves to play with his toys especially his feet and discover all he can do roll over scoot etc. I believe it will help him get started crawling

LO is 3.5 months old and she spends a significant portion of the day on a blanket on the floor or on her play mat on the floor. We don't wear shoes around the house a lot but I'm not a stickler for them being taken off. I don't worry about it too much and she's happy playing on the floor so it works!

@Mrsbells: no we don't. We vaccum once a week and sweep the kitchen/dining a couple times a week. He is usually in the LR or his room.

Lo was on the floor all the time. We put down blankets and foam tiles since we had hard wood floors.

We have floor tiles covering our entire living room so my infant daughter plays on the floor all the time (tummy time). My son used to play on the floor all the time when he was younger too.

Every day for many hours, at that age. On a blanket, or an activity mat with toys above her. I'd sit near her and talk to her, we'd listen to music, I'd read to her or just myself, lots of fun stuff. When she was really little, I just snuggled her up next to me on the couch. But as soon as she started grabbing above her head and onto toys, I started putting her under her little baby gym. She loved looking up at the little toys.

All the time from infancy. I feel like it is natural for babies to be on the floor. We have carpet and I put a blanket on top. DD started crawling at 5 months and was practicing on the floor at 4 months. If she wasn't on the floor, I wouldn't have known if she was ready to crawl? Maybe, maybe not?

I do let him play on the floor but not every day. Just depends on when he naps and what we're doing with his big brother. I usually put something in front of him to let him grab but pretty much everything goes into his mouth these days.

DD is 5.5 months old and we only play on the floor! She's in her jumperoo while I cook breakfast but other than that we're rolling around and playing together on the floor. We have carpet and no one wears shoes indoors but we still lay a A&A swaddle blanket down

Every day. We have carpet, so I just lay her right down. When she was littler, I put down a blanket. She is totally content to lay or sit on the floor with her toys and entertqin herslef if I need her to, or we play together.

Lo is almost 4 months and she spends a lot of her time on a blanket on the floor. We wear our shoes in the house sometimes but I vacuum daily because we have a big black dog that sheds.

She spends most of her time on the floor. I try to limit her time in the jumperoo or bouncer to about 15 minutes per day. We have a large Korean play mat that she can safely roll around on. I also use lots of blankets and vacuum frequently.

All the time! LO started crawling at 5 1/2 months and at 6 1/2 months he is able to crawl around the room to find mama and daddy.

um... LO has played on the floor since he first got home from the hospital because I could lay down next to him. He is almost always on a blanket. I'd say if he's not in my arms or sleeping, he is on the floor.

She gets floor time more now but we didn't put her on the floor a lot in the beginning. Now that we're spending more time upstairs and in her room (where the dogs don't tend to pee....:-/ ) we put her on a blanket and let her roll around. We have noticed she is starting to scoot already!! She's 4 months old today.

I started putting him on the floor when he was a couple days old for TT. He pretty much played on the floor for at least an hour a day from the beginning (TT then on his mat, etc.)

we love hanging out on the floor - with a blanket or play mat because of hardwood floors.

Thanks everyone. I have never put my baby directly on the floor, our floors are wood and so its slippery plus, I know its germy because of the stroller. I will get more foam tiles and then I can put her on them

@Mrsbells: our floor is all carpet--i'd prefer to put him on hardwood (i trust my scrubbing more than my very good vacuum) but we don't have any.
do you have any blankets?
we leave our stroller in the car and leave shoes at the door
