We have only had to once. Usually family will babysit for us. But they are all gone this weekend, so I am thinking about getting one cause I think DH and I need a date night. I just hate to spend the money.

And how much do people pay for a sitter? DH and I promised each other that we would start doing date nights 1-2x/month. but I have been so lazy about finding someone!
And to answer your question, we have only paid a sitter once. We paid our nanny $20/hour to watch DD. It was great because she already knows our house and DD, but the price was way too much, especially since DD was asleep the whole time and our nanny brought her daughter.

@septca: That's what kills me - we usually go out very close to bedtime so the sitter is watching our kids sleep - haha
We don't have family close by so unless my mom is visiting we always have to pay for a sitter!
eta: we pay $15 hour for 2 kids

@septca: We hired a day care teacher (only to find out it isn't allowed) and she charged $12 an hour. She was there 130-1030, since we were at a wedding. I hate to hire someone too cause R will be asleep before we even leave.

@septca: We pay between $15 - $20 for a sitter.
We do date night about once a month. We either hire a sitter or do parents night out at LOs daycare.

@Smurfette: and @Mamaof2: I know. It's totally ridiculous. But a lot of my friends hire college or graduate students for $15/hour - the students love it because they don't even go out until after we would be home (10:30-ish) and they get to study or whatever while making money.

@littlek: I was afraid you were going to say that. $15-16 I can handle. $20 I cannot.

@littlek: I can't wait for R to be a little older to do it at day care. Right now she goes to sleep when it starts, and she doesn't move asleep good.

We haven't yet... I wouldn't even know where to look for one that I trust!

Here in a bigger city, we pay about $20 a hour or so for babysitting. We don't have family close by. Also, I feel bad when friends babysit for free as well. I often gift them nice things for doing it. We use a babysitter about once or twice a month.
My parents are watching LO when we go to a wedding next month, but it takes a lot of coordination to arrange the weekend just not hotel and plane fare.

During the summer, we hire someone every week for 2 hours so DH and I can play softball together. Since August, though, we've only hired someone once or twice. We pay $12-$15/hour.
I got some ideas from friends about getting an evening babysitter--I'm going to contact the local PTA and see if there are any responsible seniors at the high school in our subdivision to hire :). Our real estate agent also lives in our subdivision and knows *everyone* here!

@pinkcupcake: Do you belong to a neighborhood kids group? We belong to one and have gotten recommendations from there. Also, one of our former daycare ladies does babysitting and a cousin of our daycare does it as well.

We go on a few date nights a year. And then I have to get a sitter here and there for things like dental appointments.

We haven't paid one yet because we still haven't found one. I'm going to have to use an online service, I guess, because I can't find a referral for one to save my life!

we mostly trade off with other couples, but we paid a sitter once.
$10/hr

Only once in her 16 months of life. family usually fights over her!

We paid a sitter twice maybe. One was a teenager (18) who worked with DH and we gave her $10/hour to sit while LO slept. That's pretty average here though. However, we won't be inviting her back for several reasons. We also paid my teenage cousin I think $20 for a few hours out but I think it's different with family. My mom usually babysits for free.

So far, we've only used our family, and we use them about once every 2 or 3 weeks. We have a couple sitters from her old daycare that have offered to watch her if we need it - I think the going rate is $10/hr.

We go out a few times a month and pay $12-15 usually. We found some great sitters through my local moms group and sometimes we use our nanny when she's free.

We have date night every other week. We pay LO's former nanny $12 per hour. Worth every penny. We don't have family close by, but do have a good friend who sometimes does it for free.

Never...
ILs have watched him a several times during the day, and DH's aunt and uncle watched him once but we were back before bedtime. I'm ready for a date night though! Unfortunately it's not something we can afford.

LO is 22 months and so far we have never paid a sitter, usually my parents or DH's parents will watch her. I think I find it hard to trust anyone

Our oldest will be 8 this summer and we've never paid for a sitter. We do however, trade with my best friend about once a month or so - we watch their kids one night so they can go out, and they watch ours in return.
I wish we had family near by - my sister tells me about all the times she's had our mom watch her kid ... I'm kinda jealous!

We do 2-3 times a month, we don't have family in state so I used a service and found someone great that we can rely on and is great with LO. She also does some light housekeeping as LO is asleep for the majority of the time.
