At 3, I still cut my lo's grapes. I also won't let her suck on hard candies. I cut anything that is small and round before she eats it. I'm a paranoid mom, though.

Same! Xander's 2.5 and we cut his grapes (and grape tomatoes). I don't trust my Heimlich abilities so I don't want to risk any choking.

Grapes and hotdogs will be cut up for a longgg time in my house. They're 3 and 1 right now.

DS is 2 and I don't cut his grapes. Haven't since he was probably 1?
honeydew / 7303 posts
I will cut her grapes until she's like 20! Lol she's 3 right now. I don't cut hot dogs though. You mean like a hot dog on a bun? How do you even cut that?

My 2.5 year old wont eat grapes if they are cut. I only let him have them when I am watching him like a hawk!
I do cut then up into tiny pieces for my 10 month old!

LO will be 2 next month and I only cut grapes of we are taking them for a snack on the go and she will be eating them in her car seat. Otherwise, I just give them to her whole.

@yellowbird: I'm a weirdo and I slice it lengthwise. So it still fits in the bun.

He's 2.5 and I still cut his hotdogs length wise but he doesn't eat it in the bun anyway. I do not cut grapes at home but if I am sending them for daycare I do cut them once in half length wise.

Almost 3 and I still cut them. I just stopped cutting blueberries a few months back

Almost 3 and just recently stopped cutting them. Unless we're eating on the go/in a car seat, and then I still cut them.

3.5 and yes. We know a 5 year old who choked to death on a grape so I will cut for a long time.

13 months, and I cut anything circular: grapes, grape tomatoes, bananas, hot dogs...

she's 3 and I haven't cut up for over a year. She would refuse to eat them when I cut them up.

17 mo and I cut her grapes in 1/4ths. She doesn't really chew her food that well sometimes though.

@winniebee: yes! MIL is a nurse and told me about a 4 year old that died on his birthday from choking on a hot dog. Just not worth it.

She's almost 3 and I cut them in 4ths most of the time! I swear the grapes at our grocery store are gigantic. I don't see myself stopping any time soon. My LO will even point out pieces to me that she thinks are too big! If she wouldn't eat them cut up, I just wouldn't give her grapes.

3 and 17 months - yes and if they are extra big, I cut them in 4ths. I'm sure I'll keep doing it for a while. DS1's tonsils are huge and the ENT said to watch out when he eats. There isn't a lot of space in his throat so he could choke easily.

Uhoh I don't cut her grapes and she's only 17 months! Now Im thinking maybe i should. She's really good about chewing so i hadnt given it much thought before.

23 months and nope, don't cut. Haven't cut them for months and months.
apricot / 371 posts
Almost 3 and no. Although the I do still cut them if I'm sending them in her school lunch.

DS is 3 1/2 and I haven't cut grapes or hot dogs in at least a year. Obviously I still cut them up for DD who is 10 months!
pomegranate / 3375 posts
21 months. Do not cut. I think we stopped cutting at 16 months? I should probably cut them.
blogger / pomegranate / 3044 posts
4 and yes but only because daycare won't give it if it's not,so I'm in the habit!

20 months and yes!
Did you hear about the child who died after choking on a grape at Pizza Hut? Very sad!

DS is only 13 months, but I'll be cutting grapes and the like until he's at least 5! I'm paranoid.
coconut / 8483 posts
He's 1.5 and I cut and will for a long time. A grape is a perfect size to get lodged in their throat and it's almost impossible to get it out. I just read about it yesterday again and need to ensure DH is on the same page.
