I was 23, and DH was 26 when we bought our first home. Three years later and we're still living here today. We plan on it being our forever home.

Bought a condo at 26 when I was single. Lived there 3 years until i married DH (moved into a condo he owns). Bought a house with DH a few months ago at 32. Now we own 2 condos and a house and are renting the condos.

Ugh, not gonna lie, this is making me a little depressed. We are 25 and still at least a few years away from being able to buy. It is SO. FRUSTRATING because we live in NYC where the prices are just insane. In another city we'd be in our own home already. Here we're renting a small apartment for an outrageous price while we just try to save everything we possibly can. We also want to put at least 20 percent down which means we'll need to save A TON to get something even remotely nice around here. I hate to admit it but seeing friends who live elsewhere and have huge houses for in the $200,000s makes me super jealous.

@MrsSCB: I'm with you, lady! Ours is not so much an issue of money as it is of stability. We have move quite a lot in the last few years for school, and we'll go wherever I can find a job when I'm done with school. I suspect we are at least 5 years away from buying, which will put us in our 30s.

28 (DH was 26). We've been here 3 years, not sure how long we'll stay.

22 and I'd love to move soon if we had the money, but I'm thinking the next 5 years would be more reasonable.

We were 26. We got married later that year. We've been in the house 4 years now, and will probably move within the next 2 or so. It's a great home and location, but is lacking some features that we're going to want as our daughter grows. (Like, we only have one bathroom.)

@LovelyPlum: Oooh, yeah I hear you on the stability thing! I'm still very undecided whether I want to stay in the NYC area to raise our kids or move elsewhere, so we'll obviously have to make a decision on that before buying, too, haha.

We just bought our first last week! I'm 29 and DH is 33. We plan on being in for easily 5-10 years.

@MrsSCB: We just bought in Lower Westchester after realizing NYC itself (Manhattan) just wasn't a right fit anymore. Our condo still costs a lot more than almost anyone I know!

my DH bought us a house when I was 22, I was involved in the process except for my name being on the deed. We sold it 2.5 years later and purchased a house together that year, we've been in the new house almost 2 years so far.

This makes me a little jealous! We've moved around a good bit since college, but are still not in a place, financially, to buy a home (at 27). I'm not sure when we'll get to that place, either. We'd like to build a tiny house (not on wheels), but then you've got to have land for it...
Kudos to all of you for having your shit together!

@LindsayInNYC: Congrats on your new home, so exciting! I'm totally with you on the city not being a good fit anymore. I have such a love-hate relationship with NYC these days. I'm definitely an introvert so I'm just getting tired of so many people being around me allllll the time. It's exhausting! Yet somehow I'm scared to pull the trigger and move farther away or somewhere else entirely. I guess when the time is right I'll know it (I hope!)

@MrsSCB: We moved to the area 4 1/2 years ago and have lived in Jersey City since there. Our goal has always been to live in Manhattan! We started looking in January and found that it would be very difficult to get everything we wanted and needed - 1 bed flex/convertible since we couldn't afford a two bedroom, dishwasher... And still have left over income for daycare/nanny. We looked in Bronxville briefly but never in a million years expected to own so soon after! I think anywhere in the City is great when you're single or even for a family but it"s hard to make it work...

@LindsayInNYC: Ahhh, I live in Jersey City now! But I have always thought I wanted to eventually buy in a more suburban place while my kids grow up. Like you said, the city works for some families but it's just not for me!
