My best friend (28) wants one but her doctor won't even consider it. However she has no kids. She's never wanted them and is 100% sure, to the point she uses multiple redundant birth control methods and would abort if she did get pregnant, but they absolutely refuse. I'm guessing you'd get pushback, but not so much since you have kids.

I'm totally done, am tentatively planning to get my tubes tied when my mirena runs out, I'll be 31. I talked with my OB and she said she wasn't a problem, especially if you already have kids.

My OB actually tried to push it over vasectomy for DH. He got snipped anyway.

@erinpye: really? What was her reasoning? I always thought a vasectomy was the least invasive option and have been slowly trying to get DH to do it when the time comes but he refuses. I think it's only Fair have goes through something!!!!

I am looking at having it done when LO2 arrives. I'm 38 and my doctor will do it but really wants me to think about it some more. For some reason she thinks 38 is still young to consider tubal ligation. She's encouraging me to get an IUD instead.

I'll consider it.... But it just seems so permanent. My husband offered to have a vasectomy. I feel a little better about that.

The only people I know who had their tubes tied have all been over 30. My OB knew we were serious about being one and done and said she would do a tubal with my csection. When I was about to have my section she asked again if I was interested - I wasn't comfortable doing it then, but definitely wouldn't have gotten push back from my doctors had I been.

If you want one with a csection, make sure you're not delivering at a Catholic hospital. My friend wanted to deliver at the same hospital she had with her first, but wanted her tubes tied and her catholic hospital will not perform them for any reason, so she had to switch hospitals late in the game.
