LO1 will just barely be 5 when she starts Kindergarten, the cutoff is September 1 and her birthday is August 29. LO2 will turn 5 about 6 months before she starts Kindergarten.
How old will your LO be when they start Kindergarten? If they are close to the cutoff how will you decide if they will start that year or wait a year?

He was 5 for about 3 weeks
I was kinda bummed that he would be the oldest in the class but now that he has been going for a few months I am kinda glad - he was not emotionally ready at almost 5 and he is doing amazing!

My answer to this question has evolved over time.
If you asked me before my son began preschool at 3 years 9 months, I would have said he's going on time, so he would be 4 years 9 months at the start of kindergarten. Cut off is Dec 31.
Now, that he is in a 4s preschool program with children that are a full year older than him (parents kept them back according to cut offs), it's clear that he's the absolute youngest in the class and we're keeping him back a year so he will begin when he's 5 years 9 months. It's not for academics, it's for the social/emotional things.

Cutoff is 9/1 and her bday is 8/3, so she'll be newly 5. I'm planning to start her on schedule (so she'll be one of the youngest in her class).

She will be almost six. The cutoff is October 1 and she will turn five on October 7. I'm a little miffed that she has to wait an entire year and will be the oldest in her class, but it is what it is.

JK starts at 4 here andcutoffis Dec 31. LO will be 4 in early December, so she'll be just over 3.5

December 1 is the cut-off here. She'll be 5. And we just found out her BFF (who has a January b-day) will be attending the same school when it's time.

He will just have turned 6 (bday is sept 1, must be 5 on or by sept 1 for kinder.)
Truthfully, I feel a lot better keeping him out a year. My experience with early childhood students they typically (speaking in generalities) do better over time starting them at 6 as opposed to 5.

In our current school district, he will be almost 6. The cutoff is September 1 and his birthday is September 3. I'm not a big fan of redshirting, but in this school district, the decision is made for us. What will be interesting is if we move back to our hometown area before he starts K - their cutoff is September 30, and then we will need to make that decision on our own. My MIL is a big fan of redshirting (my DH was redshirted with a late August birthday) and I know there would be tons of commentary if we decided against doing it down the road.

The cutoff actually says 5 before September 1st, and LO1's bday is September 1st but I plan on starting her when she's 5. I think i have to fill out paperwork to make sure they will start her which is annoying because she missed being before sept 1 by just a couple hours

I'm not sure what we're going to do. Cut-off here for public school is 9/1, and D's birthday is 11/18. So he'll need to stay in daycare and I guess he'll do kindergarten there? I'm not sure what happens after that. If he'll have to do kinder again with public school? So he'll either be about 4 years 9 months, or 5 years 9 months.

LO1 will be 5 years and turn 6 just 2 months into the school year. LO2 will have just turned 5. They are 2 years apart but will only have a 1 year school grade difference.

DD1 will be 4 years 8 months. DD2 will be 3 years 8 months. Their birthdays are ten days shy of two years apart, but they fall on opposite sides of the school cutoff. I am conflicted about having them be oldest and youngest in their school years.

Cutoff here is August 31st, so LO will be 5, turning 6 at the end of September. I haven't done enough research regarding redshirting to be either for or against this yet.

DD1 will be 5 years and 4 months. Not sure when I will start DD2 yet. She will either be 4 years 8 months or 5 years 8 months. I'll have to make the call closer to the time. She's only 2 now so it's too early to tell. I'll wait and see how she develops in preschool.

Our cutoff is 9/1, and his birthday is 11/17, so he will be like @shootingstar:'s son and 5 y 9 mo.
LO2 is due in August, so he/she will be one of the youngest at just 5, which is how I was. I turned 5 the week before school started.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: If I can send her to private kindergarten early, I may do that. It just depends on if she's emotionally and/or academically ready for kindergarten, I can afford a private school for a year, and can find one that will accept her despite her birthday.

5 years 9 months -- cutoff is 8/31 and her birthday is in early December. If she really seems ready, we may look into private school so she can go the year before, otherwise she'll stay at her daycare in the pre-K class.

At the school we picked the kids are supposed to be 6 the year they enroll, but if they are 5.5 by the time school starts, they can start, so my son will be a little over 5.5, but probably one of the younger ones in his class.

For DS, I"m not sure. He's mid August and we could send him at age 5 but I might want him to be 6 when he starts and I might want an extra grade year between them.

I have no clue where we'll be living when our LOs start school. I think most of the schools around here have cutoff days of Sept 1 or a big later in Sept. So Lo #1 and #2 would be five (July and this Aug birthdays).
