Is there any brand name stuff? You could try Ebay? I sold a few things that I had found in my closet that way.

It's a lot more work than your 3 options however. Not sure if you have time for that between all of your current responsibilities!

I donate all mine! I should totally sell them since I have a bunch of pricier stuff, but I never do

@Mrs. Bee: ooh there are services that will eBay your stuff for you. They take a percentage of whatever they can sell just like consigning. You might be able to recoup more cash that way if your items are name brand and pricey?

I donate all my clothes to Goodwill. They are usually a low-label brand (Gap, Old Navy, Target) or already thrifted/bought at a consignment store, so it's not worth my trouble to attempt to sell them because most places wouldn't buy them. We don't donate enough to get a tax writeoff, either. But if you have nice label stuff, I'd go the consignment route!

I sold all of my nice stuff on ebay before I got married.
When I purge, I just donate to salvation army or Goodwill now.
If you have the time, I'd totally sell to a thrift store or consignment store for extra money!

I usually give the nicer stuff to my little sister who is close to my size, young and just starting out with a more professional career. Then I do have a few things that I feel like I should do consignment, but never enough for me to actually do it. I generally just drop them all in the donation bin and don't even get a tax write off. But, for every one nice thing, there are 5 Gap level things and 15 Target/Old Navy type things, so it would be different if I had nicer stuff.
My grandmother works in a consignment store where the benefits go to a local charity, so sometimes we give her the decent stuff (Banana Republic quality or better, which isn't much for me).

I'm definitely one who donates... much easier and makes me feel good to know someone who needs them will use them, or the charity can sell them for cash toward their mission...

ALSO!! You should check in your city to see if there are women's charities who help either connect low-income women with job interview clothes or low income teens with formal wear for HS dances. in chicago, there's a great nonprofit called Bottomless Closet where your clothes go directly to those sorts of clients. very cool.

My mother has a ministry that has a home for women and a thrift store that the proceeds go to the home. We donate EVERYTHING to them, but I don't write it off.

We give away anything that is still in nice condition, and don't take a tax write-off. Recently, we've been giving our stuff directly to families we know who are in need, so that wouldn't be eligible anyhow.
