How sick does your child have to be before you keep them home from school? DD has a cough but no fever. On one hand, I feel bad exposing other kids to her germs but at the same time I don't think I ever missed school for a cold. How do you decide when to keep your child home?

I don't keep DS home for a cough. More than likely, he got it there, anyways. I only keep him home if there's a fever or an ear infection starts coming because of it. If he's otherwise looking happy and normal, I don't keep him home.
I do keep him home if it kept him up a lot at night. Either keep him home or give him an extra hour in the morning.

I really only keep my son home when he's running a fever or has stomach issues. If he has a cough, it's usually asthma induced.

Unless its a really extreme cough and she isn't feeling well on top of it (just wants to lay around) I would send her. Usually she just has a light cough and is still up for playing.

I err on the side of caution. A fever isn't my litmus test. If he looks like he's caught something or is at all unhappy or uncomfortable, I keep him home.

Fever, diarrhea, something bad. Otherwise I send some tylenol. She's usually distracted at daycare and does better there.

Fever, diarrhea, just miserable and wanting to be held constantly. If I kept him home with a cold he'd never go to school!
