We are planning on buying baby #2's crib and mattress after Christmas. We have the crib picked out, but how do we choose a mattress? A's mattress was given to us by my brother so we didn't need to put any thought into it. I want something decent but can't afford to spend hundreds. Anyone have any tips for choosing a crib mattress?

I just went by suggestions on HB and reviews online. I really don't know (still don't) how else!

I'm lame and went with the one the Buy Buy Baby sales person recommended. I wanted lightweight to make sheet changes easy, and went with some sort of green certified thing to make myself feel better.

It is highly rated by Baby Bargins (I used that book a lot for recommendations on baby gear) and I have read a couple of recommendations online. Most of the Amazon reviews are positive and it is a great price.

We got one from Target for under $100 - no springs. She loves it! I can text you the brand once I check

I got a naturpedic. Love it! A natural mattress was important to me and that brand is middle of the road as far as "organic" mattresses go.
Had to be firm natural as possible and waterproof without too terrible a toxin to achieve that.
