My daughter's class uses dry erase markers and white boards on a regular basis, so she's constantly coming home with dry erase marker on her clothes (an errant mark on the front of a dress, smudges on her sleeves). So far, nothing I've tried has worked to get it off her clothes. I understand why her teacher uses them, but I'm frustrated at having her clothes ruined. If you've had success in getting it out of clothes, please share!

Can you suggest that they switch to dry erase crayons...no one knows they even exist and they are a bit pricier, but they accomplish the exact same thing, and NO odor!
I don't have any luck getting the marker stains out though, so curious if there is some magic solution out there too!

I haven't used it on those types of stains specifically, but I've had some luck using Zout to get out stains I thought were there for good. The key is to put it on and then wash it on the hottest setting the clothing will allow.

I've used rubbing alcohol on sharpie with great success. Might be worth trying on the dry erase

Murphy's oil soap! I tasked my mom with getting dry erase marker off one of my sweaters. She tried just about everything and this is the only thing that worked. Apparently dry erase is really hard to get out of clothes!

@looch: I’m definitely going to bring it up at parent conferences. I would happily buy a set for the class. It would be cheaper than what I’m dealing with now!
@MamaBear87: I have tried rubbing alcohol but it hasn’t significantly helped the stain.

Definitely try to convince them on dry erase crayons!!
I've used rubbing alcohol or hair spray in the past (they work with ink on hotel sheets too, in case you're wondering... thanks kid), but it takes probably a half hour of scrubbing, letting dry, and reapplying before it comes out - which would be a total pain if this is happening on a regular basis. And the only thing I'd caution you about Murphy's Oil Soap is that it can remove dye from clothes too.

@Meowkers: My son's really neat, but I've been able to get the dry erase crayon smudges out using just a light spray of stain remover.

@Pancakes: No stain advice, but I'm curious, since DD1's class just started using dry erase boards as well - do you think the stains are coming directly from the marker, or from your LO using sleeves etc. to wipe the board/getting board "wipings" on their clothes?

@Pancakes: Rubbing alcohol should do the trick since it's the high alcohol content in it that will get out sharpies. Have you tried soaking it for a few minutes to see if it comes out?
Also, try hand sanitizer (the ones that are alcohol based). Quick search says the hand sanitzers contain between 60-95% alcohol. Maybe it will say the % on the bottle.

Thanks. I see this in my future - more the wiping than the marker itself; I hope the wiped stains will be easier to get out. DD1 is not at all careful with her clothes - which is unfortunate because she has two sisters who could wear the things she doesn't wreck!
