We tried today (DH tried I should say), and she totally freaked out like she was being tortured!!! She gagged and coughed, and got so upset I ended up nursing her to make her feel better!
How did you introduce a bottle? Any tips are appreciated.

Just take it slowly and keep trying. It took several tries before LO would drink a full feeding's worth.

@Weagle: I guess I need to pump a few bags of very small portions! She didn't take any at all today and the smallest bag I had was 3 oz sad panda.

What kind of bottle did you use? We've had luck with the Tommee Tippee bottles and they're lowest flow nipples. I've also heard good things about the Medela Calma, which we have but haven't tried.

Oh, another thought - perhaps nurse her a little first and then try? Maybe if she's not ravenously hungry it will help?

@hergreenapples: we have the Medela bottles with nipples, not the calma though. Maybe we will have to buy some different ones :S. I have so many of the Medela ones from my sister!!
We did try when she wasn't super hungry... Ugh. I was so hoping it would be easier!!!

We put a little breastmilk at the tip of the nipple and held it to his lips. We let him get used to it before he actually started drinking from it. She'll get there!

Try comotomo! We just gave LO her first ever bottle (she's 3w) and she acted like she was at the breast.
Sorry you're having a hard time hope it gets better for you!!

@sslm: Were you in the room at all? We introduced with either DH or my mom feeding and me upstairs or completely out of the house. We did this for months (probably way longer than needed) every time DS got a bottle. Eventually it didn't matter if I gave it or not or which bottle was used (DH would get lazy and use the Medela instead of the bottles I preferred). We never had any issues with him taking a bottle this way or going back to the breast.

It totally sucks dumping BM. We started using formula to get her to take a bottle. Try lots of different bottles, find one that is like your boob. Try when she is sleepy. You need to be in a different room. A friend said that her husband laid her shirt on his chest so it smelled her her and that helped them. It is hard I know. We just went through it. When you find one she likes do it every day so she gets use to it.

@sylvie_b: that's a good idea, we'll try that!
@Mrs. Lovejoy: cool, thanks for the rec!
@anbanan15: yeah, I was in the room. That was a mistake for sure. I'll definitely leave next time.
@Smurfette: thanks for the commiseration! We will keep trying and hope for the best. My niece just took the bottle no problem so I naively figured we'd have a similar experience!
