How do you introduce a lovey to your LO and have them "accept" it?

@Alivoo01: I haven't introduced one to M yet, but I plan on it soon. I think one way to do it is to give it to them while you nurse. Then they start feeling it/rubbing on it while they nurse and start to associate it with comfort.

I can't figure out if the A&A Blanket in Xander's crib is his lovey or not, but I THINK it is. If I leave it lying over the edge of the crib instead of inside with him, he'll scoot all around the crib until he can get it and he snuggles it when sleeping.
I didn't really do anything to introduce it to him - we just used to swaddle him in it when he was little and now it's just in the crib with him, but he seems to love it!
But when I wanted to send one to daycare for him for comfort, I slept with it first to get my scent on it. And I may have squirted milk on it... sorry, gross, I know! But I really wanted Xander to associate the blanket with ME. And now he seems to LOVE his A&A blankets!

I used to leave a burp cloth draped over the edge of the crib and once he was able to, he would grab it and hug it. Now I let him have it and consider it his lovey. I approve because it's cheap and we have a ton of them so he doesn't mind if he has a different lovey.

@Mrs. Polish: my nephew used a burp cloth as a lovey! Super convenient!

I have him hold it while nursing. I haven't figured out if he really loves it yet or not. He does tend to smile and grab it. We have an Angel Dear monkey. He also seems to like the little A&A loveys.

Same as others, I held it between us while nursing. He loves his lovey!

Nursing - got it! Thanks ladies!
@Mrs. Polish: @photojane: We use burpy cloths too and always have one on his lap when he's in the car seat. Wonder if he'll take to that more easily or more than something else we introduce!

She did it herself, she always had to have a blanket by her face from 9 months on...in the last 2 weeks she has decided that it is a certain blanket (of course we only have one, and htey don't make it anymore.) So now I'm working on buying a new one that is very similar so I can get multiples of and replacing it

We just handed it to her the first night (a few days after swaddle weaning) and she immediately took to it - hugged it, cuddled it, and eventually fell asleep with her face on it.

We placed it in his hand or near him a lot, and he gradually grew to love it.
My suggestion would be to buy back-ups just in case. My LO loves to bite it and suck on it, and it gets stinky real quick. We have 3 and I'm seriously considering buying a fourth.

@shinymama: YES. I bought one lovey, and scoffed at the 3 packs that Angel Dear has too. Uhhh... we need the 3 pack. Since DS naps every 2 hours, I cannot drag that nasty thing away to wash it. DH has nicknamed it Crusty. Eww!
