In the 2 years I have been babysitting my daycare girl her Mom has never forgotten to pay me. At times in the beginning she needed to pay me a week late but always told me ahead of time. For the past year her and her DH both got better paying jobs in there careers so she hasn't had to pay me late in a long time. She's been really busy lately and has had alot of family drama going on so this past Friday she forgot to pay me. I gave it till today (tuesday) to see if she would remember and she hasn't. I feel SO weird telling her she forgot and I am not sure how to word it. We usually communicate threw text because it's easier with the kiddos. I won't see her again until Thursday and then another payment is due Friday. I want to send her a text letting her know but I don't want to sound money hungry or to make her feel bad for forgetting. I know I am making this a bigger deal then it really is but I hate dealing with these situations I'm always afraid of saying the wrong thing and making people feel bad. How would you word the text? Or how would you like it worded if you were in her shoes?

I think a text reminder would be fine. Just something like, I don't think I received payment from you this past Friday. Can you bring a check this week? If I missed it, let me know.

I hear my boss having conversations like this with his clients a lot. I think if there is anyway you can word it so you are giving her the benefit of the doubt, that is best. You know, something like "I know things have been hectic, and I think your forgot to make your payment to me this week. No big deal, but if you can get the payment to me as soon as possible, that would be great. Thanks!"

If I were you, I would wait until she pays you for the next session and if she doesn't include the money for Friday point it out. Just say "Hey I think this is only for today and I don't think you paid me for last Friday".
If you want to say something sooner, send a text that's more like a question. Like "Hey I don't think you even paid me for Friday, am I mistaken?" It's to the point and not accusatory.

I think the other ladies have good ideas. I might even say something like "I'm so sorry.. totally forgot to ask you for payment on Friday.. "

I would text and say, "Oh I just remembered I didnt get my check on friday.. will I be able to pick that up tomorrow?"

I probably wouldn't text--don't want to have another possibly weird conversation later, "Hey....did you get my text?"
Just be open and honest-either in person or call, just say what you said, you know things have been hectic, it's super easy to forget what day it is, but the payment is late and you need it asap. -
I've had to do this more than a few times, it's awkward for everyone. I usually stick to 'hey just realized I forgot to get my check from you on Friday. Could you send it tomorrow? Thanks!!' it's non accusatory, and just cheerful enough to squash any weirdness.

I sent her a text it said " Hey I know you probably just forgot or maybe I misplaced it but I think you may have forgot to pay me last week? It's not a big deal just me know if you did if not you can just add it to Friday" She immediatly responded apologizing. Phew I'm glad I got that over with.

I wouldn't text because she might not reply or be too busy to and then it's awkward. I am totally weird about money and I totally get why you would be shy. When I used to babysit they paid me on a monthly basis..thank goodness. That was too big of a check for them to forget to write!
I'd wait until she handed me my check on Friday and then look at it and say..."oh this is just for this week" or "is this for this week and last?"
And she'll probably be ok..."oh!" And then you can make her feel better by explain that you totally understand that she's been busy and hectic and not to worry about being late....That way she won't be embarrassed. -
@Mrs.B: oh good! glad it went ok!! I know the family I nanny for would totally be apologetic, like oops! Mommy brain! And make light of it.
