First off - congrats!! Second, it's tough. I've been there...both on the giving and receiving end. The only thing you can do is be open and honest and give them time to process their own feelings.
One of the most hurtful things was when someone didn't tell me until she was 15 weeks because she didn't want to upset me.

I think everyone's different, but if/when my best friend tells me I'd hope it would be by text. It would give me the best chance to process and would allow me to reach out to them when I'm ready. I think just sticking to something simple would be my preference. Maybe like "Hey, just wanted to let you know I'm pregnant. I know it's been tough for you and I wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of you and am always here to listen. Call me." But that's just me.

Congratulations! We dealt with this recently with my SIL and BIL. We decided to tell them first, before the rest of the family, so they had chance to digest it. We sent a thoughtfully worded text rather than call, because we didn't want to put them on the spot and feel they had to react. BIL texted back to say they appreciated it, because it was hard for SIL. She never contacted us at all until I contacted her recently. I think you just have to be prepared for hurt feelings but that it is not personal, just very hard for them.

I would send an email. And make sure if they work it's when they're more likely to be home.

I agree with being sensitive and not pitying. And then be willing to have them approach you when they're ready.

I think just being aware that your announcement might not be 100% joyful for them and recognizing that is enough. I agree that email or text is a good way to give them time to process and I think you are a very kind friend to be so considerate of other people's feelings.
