I'm trying to take the "whatever works" approach to our sleep issues- we nurse to sleep, co-bed, and nurse back to sleep whenever she wakes up. For naps I nurse to sleep and try to sneak away. Bedtime I nurse to sleep and try to sneak away.
This was working. Naps were about 45 minutes, and she would wake up a few times after I put her down the night (usually after 20 minutes, then after 10 minutes, then she would sleep for an hour).
For the past two weeks it is no longer working- I can't get up and leave her or she wakes up immediately. For a couple naps I've been able to stop nursing and then lie with her for another 15 minutes, and then get up. But this doesn't work at night- she is up as soon as I leave, or not falling asleep for hours. Hours of nursing.
She could be going through something (she is 5 months on Sunday), and I'm willing to wait it out a little longer. But I'm beginning to think that her reliance on my boob to go to sleep is a little too strong.
How / When did you stop nursing to sleep? Is there a gradual approach I could try?
