Aislinn/Aislynn?
I know someone who pronounces it one way, but the correct pronunciation is so different! Upon seeing the name, how would YOU pronounce it had you never seen the name before? We are considering it for a middle name.

I would look at it and have no clue. I guess Ace-lynn

Ash-Ling but only because I have a friend who is Irish (as in legitimately from Ireland) and her name is spelled similarly and that's how she pronounces it. With not background I would have no clue how to pronounce this name.

@Truth Bombs: The person I know pronounces it like you are saying Eyeslynn, so that is how I thought it was pronunciation until I looked it up (I forgot how she spelled it, so I thought this was the wrong name at first. She does spell it Aislinn). I like it with both the correct Irish pronunciation and the way this women says it.

I think I've seen il the name before and I know it has an unusual pronounciation, but I don't remember what it is. I'd probably go with the first option.

Oh, Ash-ling, I actually remember now from a movie, "Secret of the Kells."

I know that in Ireland it's pronounced Ashling, but I tend to drop the g at the end and say Ashlin.

I know the Irish way, but that's because I've read how it's pronounced elsewhere. If I was just looking at the name with no context, I'd probably get it wrong. I love a lot of traditional Irish names (like Saoirse) but the pronunciation would be a problem.

@MrsSCB: those tricky Irish names!
I'm not too worried about the pronunciation being too difficult with it being used as a middle name. The first name(s) we are considering for a girl are easily pronounced so I think that also helps.
DS has a pretty common name and DD has a very Japanese first name (but I think her name is easy to pronounce).

I said it like "aisle" in my head but I had to study it to come to that conclusion.

I would say "Ash-lin" if I saw it spelled like that (I've always seen it spelled Aisling though, which I would pronounce "Ash-ling"). There are lots of people of Irish decent around here.

I would want to say Ayes-lin, but would mentally correct myself and say Ash-lin, since I met an Aisling a few years ago and learned the right way to pronounce it. But yeah, since there's no G on this name I'm not really getting why some would say Ash-ling?

@anbanan15: My pronunciation wasn't on the list! So I'm assuming it's wrong! haha. I would say Ays-ling, with Ays-lin being a close second.

@anbanan15: Oh yeah, especially for a middle name, I wouldn't worry about it. My first name (also Irish, haha) is mispronounced pretty often. But I don't even mind that, so for a middle name I wouldn't think twice!

@MrsSCB: My first name, although pretty common these days, gets mispronounced all the time too. I don't care! I just let people call me whatever they want.
@Mrs.Someone: This made me laugh! I got that with my name sometimes from kids growing up.

@WinterBee: was it Alz-lihn? That's another way (Scottish) I forgot to put on.

Ays-lin.
I've seen it spelt multiple ways and I think it's a very pretty name. I like the above pronunciation and the Irish pronunciation.

Ashling
But only because I knew someone growing up named aisling, and she said it that way so that's what I would think.

honestly i looked at it and thought "how the heck do i pronounce that?" My first inclination was "ass-lin"

I knew an Aislinn growing up and she said it like AZE-lynn so that's how I've always thought it was. I liked it.
Had no idea it's really supposed Ash-ling.

@anbanan15: I know the correct Irish pronunciation, but just looking at it I always want to say Ace-lynn.

DH really liked the name Aisling for a girl but I worried that no one would be able to pronounce it and he didn't like any of the alternate spellings I suggested.

Aze-lin or Ase-lynn... I am not sure I can tell the difference between the first two options. Maybe I missed it in the comments but what is "correct?"
grapefruit / 4681 posts
@kjpugs: I originally had the first two and the second two listed together on the poll since they are so similar, but changed it.
Ash-ling with Ash-lin/Ash-leen to follow (the original spelling of the name is Aisling).

I voted Ash-lin, but I have a close Irish friend called Aisling, who answers to both Ash-lin and Ash-ling (in her accent the correct pronunciation is somewhere between the two).
