I work in a salaried position that requires me to be on call 24/7. Our company lumps all vacation, personal, sick and holiday time off into one PTO bank and every employee must take 4 or 8 PTO hours (depending on PT/FT status) for designated holidays.

I've never thought twice about this until recently. Does anyone know the explanation behind being forced to use 8 hours of PTO but still taking phone calls, etc.? I'm assuming there has to be legitimate logic behind it. Our nurses are also required to be on call, but rotate holiday call throughout the year with our other locations (and get additional pay for it).
