Anyone else going to be a hunting widow??
Hunting opens this Saturday but DH is leaving on Thursday night to start scoping out the land on Friday!
It's awesome though, the land they are hunting on is over-populated so when he went to go purchase his tags, they gave him a doe tag for free! So now he can bring home a buck and a doe! I'm cleaning out our freezers to prepare for all the meat! I'm pretty excited actually and hopefully he can get a deer!
Any other husbands that hunt out there?

Yes! DH hunts all the time, he has been hunting with his bow since the beginning of October. Last year we had a ton of meat! I don't really like deer meat though, love deer jerky!

Mine is in the process of getting his liscense. We have a bunch of moose in our freezer right now from FIL.

@mrsaudi: Yea I forgot about bow hunting! DH only uses his rifle for hunting, but he only goes once per year, so it's like a major event for him! LOL

It's surprisingly good! Much like beef. We don't have deer in Newfoundland.

I've already been a hunting widow. DH went out for the first time when DS was only 2 weeks old and has been out a couple times since. Although gun season starts this weekend for our state, he is apparently not going to go out but has continued with his bow. Has yet to shoot anything yet

@MrsBrewer: yeah rifle is a much bigger deal to him and he will go all thanksgiving week hunting!

@MrsBrewer: Mine! I posted this question at the beginning of archery season and practically no one else knew what i meant by "hunting widow!"
No deer (yet) but FIL got an elk when he and DH were out in CO, so that was delicious. I've still got a deer roast from last year in the freezer that i've got to clear out.
DH was so bummed that he missed an entire day of deer archery for our childbirth class. I told him that it wouldn't be the first time his son screws up his plans.
DH, FIL and my dad are all headed to my family's hunting camp this weekend/beginning of the week for bear season. My mom might come down to help me organize the nursery.
Not looking forward to when regular deer season starts - then he's gone all the time and complaining about how tired he is!

Wow, I'm not really a fan of hunting, but I do love the thought of a freezer full of meat. Do you get sick of it by the end of it?

Yes! At least he doesn't have to go far, he goes hunting right behind our house so I don't have to look far if I need him

@sarac: I get sick of him being gone all the time and complaining about how tired he is and how he doesn't have time to do anything around the house. (Um, HELLO, he is the one who chooses to get up at 5 am and go hunting...)

@sarac: to me I don't! I mean all through the year I buy all different cuts of beef, and for me this will just take the place of beef in our freezer. Less grocery shopping trips for me, plus it's way better quality meat!

DH doesn't hunt (and it would be kind of difficult where we live), but my dad does. I wish we could have all of that mea! I loved growing up with good fresh venison and turkey

I've been a hunting widow since September. If he's not after deer, he's after quail, dove or duck. I'm trying to figure out what to do with the fridge full of dove tonight, actually. But no deer yet this year. Doe season is this weekend, though, so hopefully we'll get one in the freezer.

I am not a hunting window. I am, however, a lover of game meat (well, venison not so much) and super jealous of your freezer stashes of quail, duck, and elk. Dang!

HA! When I read the title of this post all I could imagine was someone hunting Black Widow Spiders or something.
