I just found out that I can use my Flexible Spending Account to buy OPKs! I also learned that even though my insurance does not cover fertility treatments (beyond diagnostic), I can still use my FSA for things not covered by insurance. This is fabulous news because I currently have several hundred dollars that I need to use before the end of the year. If you have an FSA, you may want to check on this with your plan!

@Rachel: I think I could buy a CBEFM. However I am going to stick with OPKs since my RE wants to see me when I get a positive OPK. I am afraid the highs/peaks on the CBEFM may not provide what I need in my specific case.

This is what I do for a living so let me tell you please be cautious...not everything not covered by insurance is covered by your FSA account. The IRS have specific guidelines for coverage. We recommend our participants to reference a website http://www.drugstore.com you are able to search items like you would on Google and it will come up and have 'FSA' and a check mark if it's covered and 'FSARX' if it needs a prescription to be covered.
I do believe though the strips and CBEFM are covered. Just be thorough in your research so you aren't stuck with out of pocket expenses. -
@Crisark: Thanks! I did call them to confirm about the OPKs and that I do not need an Rx. Good advice though for everyone! I probably need to research the other fertility items more. Thanks for the website!

@kentuckygirl: I only stress the research because we have people using their money for things they 'think' are covered and then end up not being reimbursed and freak out.

So wait, does this mean that pregnancy tests are covered as well? (I searched on Drugstore.com and they came up with the FSA checkmark).

@StrawberryBee: If it has a check mark it should be good to go!!!! Always call your FSA admin to verify if you have any doubts but we use this site when asked what's covered when participants call so I'd be confident in the answer!
On that site there is also a FSA tab where only covered items are all together via category. May help your search as well!

I have an HSA, not an fsa, so it's a bit different, but same principle. I could use HSA money for my acupuncture too.

I used it for breastfeeding supplies... even my Medela Freestyle pump and other bf'ing accessories!
