I think when people started seeing the statuses on FB that were actually posted through twitter with them they just became trendy. That and I'm sure alot of FB users didn't realize that the posts were from another site/app and just figured it was the new FB thing to do. lol

When you get an explanation, share it with me. I don't get them either, -especially- when they're used on FB!

Hashtags were originally so you could easily find tweets on the sane subject...but now they are just silly trendy things. They are useless on Facebook, but are handy on Instagram I feel.

I don't get it on FB, either.
I think for celebrities they use some kind of app that posts on both twitter and on FB at the same time, so maybe we see hashtags because they are also posting twitter.
I think it is weird when a friend does it and they don't even have twitter account.

Yeah, people seem to just use them for kicks... I've seen them in blogs, too, which obviously don't use hashtags. They seem like a way to be a bit sarcastic or funny without having to spell out 'I am being sarcastic or funny!'

I dont use twitter and rarely use facebook but I occasionally use hashtags when texting friends (or I may have done so on here)....normally for reasons @MrsDragon: mentioned. It is easier to write #wifefail than "I failed at my wifely duties"

It's like a clue to infer the tone from the snippet. It's like an emotional recap, either the hidden subtext or obvious meaning you want to come across with that statement. It also categorizes your statement in case people are doing a search for related topics.

It's totally a trendy thing now. One of my friends has long hash tags for Instagram (ex: she posts a picture of her delicious dinner and then has #ionlyworkoutsoicaneat #oksoidontreallyworkout as hash tags. Obviously, they aren't even real hash tags). So they don't even mean anything anymore.

I don't know what they are used for at all in general on social media. If your being sarcastic or something, why does one need to add a hashtag?
