I follow Gawker on Facebook and today they posted a video compilation by a guy from Vine. I don't understand this fascination with videos made of yourself. Is it just another part of the "me" generation? Am I just old? 
Can anyone explain why you would want to take videos of yourself doing stupid/annoying things and post them on the internet for all to see?

Are these videos funny? Like little comedy routines?
ETA: Just found the video I think you're talking about. I would say these videos are the same thing as doing stand up comedy, except for the internet. It's not like he's making endless videos about himself on his daily boring life lol. He obviously sets these up to be funny.

I don't really understand selfies. I mean, I take "selfies" of myself and LO because no one else is around to, but I take it to have a picture of us! not because I want to post it and fish for compliments. which honestly, i feel like that's what selfies are.

@sorrycharlie: Eh I think "Selfie" means any time you turn the camera/phone towards yourself to take a picture. I don't think taking a selfie in of itself is vain, it's more like when 90% of all the photos you take are of yourself and you take them solely because you think you look good that day and want to make sure everyone on Facebook sees that. Taking a selfie to capture yourself on vacation or something isn't really the same.

@sorrycharlie: I do the same - take "selfies" of me and Xander. Because otherwise there'd be no pictures of me with him!! But I definitely don't think of that as "selfie"... though I guess technically it is!

@pui: that's kind of what I mean though - I've never thought of a casually taken photo of a person (taken themselves) or of them and their SO on vacation, etc as a selfie. When I hear "selfie" (as opposed to, self portrait, etc, lol) I think duck face, sitting in the driver's seat pretending to drive, etc.
