My baby is one week old and I have mastitis. I went to urgent care yesterday and got an antibiotic injection and just started taking my antibiotics today.

I've read the Kellymom article on mastitis. I'm doing the warm compress, massage, nursing and then pumping that side after the feeding. I don't feel any hard lumps so I'm wondering if the clogged duct is gone already? But my breast is still really tender and hurts to touch it.

Anyone have any tips for me? I'm so glad DH is still on paternity leave to be able to help me.

Also I'm confused about how much to nurse that side. She usually only takes one breast per feeding. I'm worried about nursing that side too much and the other side not enough and getting it in the other boob.

For example, I nursed her on the infected boob (left breast) last then pumped a little more milk out of it. For the next feeding, do I feed her again from the infected boob? Or do I feed her from the right boob? That breast is already feeling engorged so I can't imagine waiting until the feeding after to nurse her on that side. But then I want to make sure I'm nursing enough on the infected side. And I'm nervous that if I nurse her too much on the infected breast, I'll start getting an oversupply in that breast.

Am I overthinking this? What did you do when you had mastitis?
