I got some storage jars, but I have heard from lots of people that ice cube trays and ziplock bags are actually the best way to go.

You're talking about for daycare right? I've decided I'm going with 4oz jelly canning jars I think. And really at the beginning you won't be bringing them into day care yet.

Yup they are glass, supermarkets in the aisle that has canning gear. Mine are usually in the baking aisle. I figure I can use them for canning too.

BTW I can see the argument with glass vs plastic but I wanted glass.

And I've been using the green OXO ice cube tray with the lids and they are working really well! I pop them out then wrap twice in saran wrap then throw them into a ziploc bag to doubly help with freezer burn.

@Mrsbells: What's the brand name of that ice cube tray. It looks cute, I want to copy off of you.

@Mrsbells: I wouldn't have bought it for myself--I was going to just go with my regular blender, but it was a gift.

Just kidding, but it might be a good solution for you.

@looch: that really wouldn't work that well, I think in the beginning when they are only eating 1-2oz. Daycare would have to heat the whole thing then reheat the whole thing again a few times throughout the day.
And you wouldn't be able to reheat the purees IN the thermos right?

ETA - Liv never liked purees, so we skipped them and went straight to table food with BLW. So I might not have needed the storage containers as much as another person might. Something else to consider, as glass is pricier.

@Mrsbells: I think the metal tops are a good thing

if you want to use the bell freezer jars, they will likely go on sale/clearance soon...

@dagret: oh very good point although probably not for another month since fall produce/fruits are great for canning as well!

@Mrsbells: oh yes, per jar in a case! IF I remember correctly. It's been a while since I bought new jars.

@Mrsbells: re: heating, I never heat LO's food! I just don't see a need. I don't want to destroy any nutrients. If it's frozen, I take out the food I need for the next day and defrost it in the fridge.

the food he eats warm is if I freshly make him food; like tonight we had pot roast and veggies, so I pureed some veggies and cut up the meat and gave it to him so it was warm.

Also, re: how much solids they eat - every baby is so different! I know some of the pp's said you don't need to bring food into daycare early on - but Cobi eats SO MUCH!! And now he is on 3 consistent meals a day, plus his normal/regular nursing schedule (morning, nap 1, nap 2, bedtime and one night session). I guess it will just depend on how your baby takes to solids. Some love it and some reject it. My nephew has finally started eating real food and he is a year old. He wanted nothing to do with it up until now.

Re: jars; I like the jelly jar idea! We have the baby bullet storage set and like it, but I wouldn't have bought it if it hadn't been a gift either. I would have just used ice cube trays and zip locs as well.

Also, idk if this would gross you out but I posted on CL to get the glass baby food jars from other moms. I would just sterilize them. But that's an idea that doesn't cost any $$!

@Mrsbells: I guess the one downside is if your LO grabs a hold of it and throws it on the ground? Otherwise the canning jars are made to be boiled all the time and reused so I like that.

@Coco Bee: my co-worker does that! I've been meaning to ask my day care teachers if any of the other parents use glass jars.
