For B's one-year photo shoot, we want to do an urban setting/theme instead of rustic or a park. Now, we need ideas! We live in Baltimore. Even if you aren't familiar with our particular city, any ideas for urban shoots that you've seen, or just think would be cool, would be appreciated!

Not familiar with the area, but a friend of mine just did a family photoshoot against a graffiti wall, it looked really cool! the colors popped.

I don't know baltimore but I did a family shoot with toddler at a splash pad in downtown Columbus and it turned out awesome.

I love photoshoots with an urban skyline in the background! Is there a place where you can get that angle?

I follow someone I know IRL on IG and she lives in Baltimore. She always posts really cool pics of the harbor area. I think that could work really well! I can already see B's smiley face with the harbor as a backdrop.

Our photographer has a lot of urban baby/family shoots on his blog and I noticed that often unless it's the whole family from pretty far back, you don't see much of the background. So it seems to work best with places that have iconic details or just cool textures like cobblestones, bricks, etc?

If you're interested in really gritty urban graffiti, Graffiti Alley could be cool (although probably a bit... unhygienic for a 12 mo old?
) http://www.baltimorefishbowl.com/stories/living-walls-pictures-from-baltimores-graffiti-alley/I think that going up to Federal Hill park would be gorgeous on a beautiful day- lots of photo ops on the playground, with the giant cannons, and amazing views of the Aquarium, Domino's Sugar sign, and other landmarks.
And I have to put in a plug for Cylburn Arboretum, which is where we're getting married. http://cylburn.org/ Gorgeous gardens (especially in the Spring!), an historic mansion, woodsy areas, and lovely lawns where families set up blankets. Edited to add, just saw you're interested in more urban than park, but it's still a great place in B-more for a nice Sat morning picnic!

Camden??? I know you guys are big baseball fans... Outside of Fenway is urban and gritty, not sure if Camden is the same?

@Ms.Pumpkin: I LOVE the graffiti alley idea! Not in the best if neighborhoods, but should be safe at 8am, right? There is also a huge mural on the side of a bank in Fells that could be cool.
Fed Hill is a good idea, too! Maybe in conjunction with the Visionary Arts Museum?

@rahlyrah: Oh yeah, morning should be just fine. Honestly, I think Station North has a bad reputation from past years- and you still have to use caution at night, but I've been going to bars and restaurants there for years and have never had a problem.
The other cool thing about that area is the Mr. Boh and Utz Girl mural, which is on West 20th street between Howard and Maryland, so it's right around the corner from Graffiti Alley: http://www.uncustomary.org/natty-boh-the-utz-girl-a-mural/
I love this mural, it's adorable, and SO Baltimore! B will be able to look back on these photos, and there will be an undeniable sense of place- there is only one city where they'd put that on the side of a building!
